Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing seeks an R&D Machinist to join the Fixture Design R&D team in Assaria, KS. You will machine prototype and fixture parts and work with Engineers to advance the design process.

This full-time role runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime. Proficiency with CNC mills and lathes, manual machining, and precision measuring tools is required to ensure safe, high-quality workmanship.

R&D Machinist – Assaria, KS

Great Plains Manufacturing is currently seeking an R&D Machinist to join our Fixture Design R&D team in Assaria, KS.

This position works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus occasional overtime, as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support Product Development by machining prototype and fixture parts
• Ability to set up and operate precision cutting machines such as manual lathes, milling machines, drills and boring mills, as well as CNC mills and CNC lathes
• Read, interpret, and work from engineering prints
• Work closely with Engineers/Designers to facilitate the design process
• Work with Fixture builders/Testing Technicians to rework parts as necessary
• Maintain a Professional working relationship with others in the department
• Perform/organize and maintain a safe working environment
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Machining experience required, including CNC mills and lathes
• Some manual mill and lathe experience preferred
• Ability to prioritize workload and workflow
• Proven aptitude for a high level of craftsmanship
• Ability to maintain close tolerances when required
• Forklift license or ability to get one
• Ability to operate and interpret precision measuring instruments
• Must be a safety-oriented team player
• Supply necessary hand tools including precision measuring tools
