Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing, headquartered in Salina, KS, is seeking an experienced R&D Machinist to join our Fixture Design R&D team in Assaria, KS. This role focuses on machining prototype and fixture parts to support product development.

You will operate manual lathes, mills, drills and boring mills, as well as CNC mills and lathes, read engineering prints, collaborate with engineers, and help maintain a safe, productive workshop.

Qualifications

• Machining experience required, including CNC mills and lathes.
• Some manual mill and lathe experience preferred.
• Ability to prioritize workload and workflow.
• Proven aptitude for a high level of craftsmanship.
• Ability to maintain close tolerances when required.

Responsibilities

• Support Product Development by machining prototype and fixture parts.
• Set up and operate precision cutting machines (manual and CNC).
• Read, interpret and work from engineering prints.
• Collaborate with Engineers/Designers to facilitate the design process.
• Work with Fixture builders/Testing Technicians to rework parts as necessary.
• Maintain a professional working relationship with others in the department.
• Follow all safety regulations and wear prescribed equipment.

R&D Machinist – Assaria, KS

Great Plains Manufacturing is currently seeking an R&D Machinist to join our Fixture Design R&D team in Assaria, KS.

This position works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus occasional overtime, as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support Product Development by machining prototype and fixture parts
• Ability to set up and operate precision cutting machines such as manual lathes, milling machines, drills and boring mills, as well as CNC mills and CNC lathes
• Read, interpret, and work from engineering prints
• Work closely with Engineers/Designers to facilitate the design process
• Work with Fixture builders/Testing Technicians to rework parts as necessary
• Maintain a Professional working relationship with others in the department
• Perform/organize and maintain a safe working environment
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Machining experience required, including CNC mills and lathes
• Some manual mill and lathe experience preferred
• Ability to prioritize workload and workflow
• Proven aptitude for a high level of craftsmanship

• Forklift license or ability to get one
