Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience.
  • Equivalent work or education/work experience considered.
  • Proficiency with GD&T and inspection equipment.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM/CMM tools (ProE/Creo, SolidWorks; MasterCAM, SurfCam, GibbsCam; PC‑DIMS, Calyspo).

Responsibilities

  • Machining (milling, grinding, EDM, lapping) of prototypes from advanced materials.
  • Program equipment in area of responsibility (MasterCAM, PC‑DIMS, Calyspo, MX).
  • Generate PC-based outputs on standard platforms (SolidWorks, Creo, Oracle, Agile).
  • Detail process and product tracking.
  • Contribute to Lean/Kaizen, ISO, 8D and related activities.
  • Transfer successful products to Manufacturing, including documentation and training.

Activities include hands‑on prototyping, CNC programming, machining of prototypes (milling, grinding, EDM, lapping, other), fabrication of fixtures, design, process optimization (cycle time, quality, yield), and data collection. All results will be documented (data summaries, Work Instructions, reports). Successful new products will be transferred to manufacturing (specifying equipment, training personnel, monitoring results).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Machining (milling, grinding, EDM, lapping, other) of prototypes manufactured from advanced composite materials
  • Perform equipment programming in the assigned area of responsibility (MasterCAM, PC‑DIMS, Calyspo, MX, others)
  • Generate PC-based outputs on standard platforms (Agile, Oracle, Cumulus, Creo, Solidworks, others)
  • Detailed process and product tracking
  • Continuous improvement via participation in Lean/Kaizen, ISO, 8D and other related activities
  • Transfer successful products to Manufacturing, including writing documentation, specifying equipment, conducting training, and monitoring results
Education & Experience
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent engineering/machining education) with 2+ years' experience
  • Equivalent work and or education/work experience considered
Skills
  • Broad experience with machining methods, including milling, grinding, turning, EDM, and other
  • Working knowledge of machining advanced materials (ceramics, composites, other)
  • Experience with GD&T and inspection equipment, hand tools, visual tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of design software, e.g., CAD (ProE/Creo, SolidWorks, other), CAM (MasterCam, SurfCam, GibbsCam, other), and CMM (PC‑DIMS, Calyspo)
Working Conditions
  • Position requires on-site shopfloor activites for prototype fabrication
  • Work schedule is 5 days, 40 hours per week, first shift
Physical Requirements

Hands‑on, shop-based job environment:

  • Required to frequently lift/push/pull a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Must be able to sit, bend, squat and walk about facility
  • Depending on project assignment, may be required to walk/stand for entire 8 hour day
Safety Requirements

All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.

Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.

Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
