Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Saxonburg, PA, is seeking an Engineer to prototype with advanced composites and to develop production methods for ceramic-based materials.

You will program equipment using MasterCAM, PC-DIMS, Calyspo, MX, and similar tools, and generate outputs on standard platforms such as Creo and SolidWorks. The role emphasizes continuous improvement via Lean/Kaizen, ISO, and 8D activities, with close interaction with customers and vendors.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 0–5 years of experience in advanced machining field.
  • Experience machining advanced materials is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM/CMM tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype fabrication with advanced composite materials including design input and inspection.
  • Develop and improve production methods for ceramic-based composites.
  • Perform equipment programming in the assigned area (MasterCAM, PC-DIMS, Calyspo, MX, others).
  • Generate PC-based outputs on standard platforms (Creo, SolidWorks, MCAD/CAM tools).
  • Interface with customers, tooling suppliers and test labs; drive Lean/Kaizen/ISO/8D activities.
  • Transfer successful products to Manufacturing with documentation and training.

Education & Experience
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent engineering education)
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in advanced machining field
Skills
  • Experience machining of advanced materials (ceramics, metal matrix composites, other)
  • Broad experience with machining methods, including milling, turning, diamond grinding, EDM, laser, ultrasonic and other
  • Knowledge of design software, e.g., CAD (ProE/Creo, SolidWorks, other), CAM (MasterCam, SurfCam, GibbsCam, other), and CMM (PC-DIMS, Calyspo)
  • Aptitude for external interfacing with both vendors and customers
Working Conditions

Position requires on-site activities for prototype fabrication (this is not a work from home position).

Work schedule is 5 days, 40 hrs per week, first shift.

Physical Requirements
  • Required to frequently lift/push/pull a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Must be able to sit, bend, squat and walk about facility
  • Depending on project assignment, may be required to walk/stand for entire 8 hour day
