POSITION PURPOSE

The Laboratory Manager at Bayport Laboratories will be responsible for leading a team of scientists and technicians in the development of new products, improving existing formulations, in-process testing and ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  1. Manage all aspects of the cosmetic research and development laboratory, including personnel, equipment, and resources.
  2. Lead and mentor a team of scientists and technicians, providing guidance and support in the development of new formulations and processes.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs, to ensure alignment and successful product launches.
  4. Plan and prioritize laboratory activities to meet project timelines and business objectives.
  5. Oversee the procurement of raw materials and laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate inventory levels and cost-effective purchasing.
  6. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
  7. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to foster professional growth and development.
  8. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to inform decision-making and maintain competitiveness.
  9. Represent the laboratory in internal meetings, client interactions, and industry conferences as needed.
  10. May be involved in troubleshooting of quality issues.
  11. Lead, motivate, train and develop the laboratory team, ensuring they are fully engaged in a safe working environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards including cGMP, FDA, and ISO 22716 (2007)
  • Strong knowledge of cosmetic formulation principles, raw materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as Laboratory Manager in cosmetic research and development.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate employees to achieve goals
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
