McCormick & Company, Incorporated in Hunt Valley, MD is offering a 10-week R&D Intern Summer 2023 position at its Technical Innovation Center. The internship runs June–August 2023, requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a paid hourly rate.

As an intern you will assist with data collection, analysis, and sensor-driven insights, and you will design dashboards and conduct independent research projects under guidance from the Sensory Data Science team.

Position Overview

The Sensory Data Science Intern will work alongside the Sensory team, based in McCormick’s Technical Innovation Center in Maryland. The Sensory team at McCormick provides actionable consumer feedback to our R&D peers throughout the organization. The team is constantly looking for new methods and technologies to help us bring back best in class consumer insights to secure our product’s preference. This position is a ten-week internship (June – August 2023) that requires working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Typical working hours will fall between 8 AM and 5 PM. This is a paid internship having a scaled ho urly rate, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and processing. E.g., learning and using our current databases, statistical analysis tools and automated dashboards.
• Conduct an independent research project in an area of agreed upon mutual interest. Proposal, execution, and written and oral presentation expected at conclusion of internship.
• Collaborate with our sensory scientists to understand data collection, data needs and make recommendations on structure and tools. Support may include working with existing tests’ data to create databases, analysis shortcuts and dashboards.
• Orally present a summary of work completed and accomplishments at conclusion of internship.

Throughout the summer, the intern must demonstrate the ability to:

• Learn from a new discipline (Sensory and Consumer Science)
• Pair up with scientists to understand data needs
• Identify areas of opportunity to streamline and align
• Assess problems, and propose solutions
• Ensure regular and transparent communication of project progress
• Exhibit self-motivation and initiative

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled as a Junior, or Senior going in the 2023-2024 academic year.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science
• Project and time management
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power Bi, and programming languages (R, Python, etc.)
