Entegris, Inc. is seeking an Engineer II, R&D to join our Membrane R&D team in Bedford, MA.

The role focuses on surface chemistry modifications for polymeric membranes used in liquid filtration and semiconductor processes. You will perform DOE, statistical analysis, modeling, and use AI tools; conduct membrane characterization with FTIR, UV-Vis, ICP-MS, LC-MS, GC-MS; help optimize roll-to-roll manufacturing; and prepare technical reports and IP disclosures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in product development, process development, manufacturing engineering, materials development, or applied research.
• Experience designing and executing laboratory experiments, collecting data, and documenting results.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret experimental data and make data-driven recommendations.
• Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.

Job Title: R&D Engineer II

Job Description: The Role: Entegris is currently seeking an Engineer II, R&D to join our Membrane R&D team. This position will be based in our Bedford, MA facility. This position will support the development of novel surface chemistry modifications for polymeric membranes with target applications in liquid filtration and purification in leading edge semiconductor fabrication processes. This role offers an excellent opportunity for engineers to build expertise in technology development, product innovation, process scale-up, and the commercialization of surface modified membrane technologies.

What You'll Do:

• Research & Development
• Development of new formulation and chemical processes through DOE, statistical analysis, modeling, and AI tools.
• Conduct membrane characterization using techniques such as flow time measurement, bubble point testing, FTIR, UV-Vis, and ion exchange capacity.
• Interpret membrane characterization and analytical metrology data, including ICP-MS, LC-MS, GC-MS, and other analytical techniques, to evaluate membrane performance and support the development of new test methods.
• Assist with process optimization for roll-to-roll manufacturing processes.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, laboratory documentation, and intellectual property disclosures.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with application, product development and introduction, operations, quality and EHS teams to develop and scale up surface-modified membrane technologies.
• Communicate technical results and recommendations through presentations to project teams and management.
• Support customer sample evaluations and participate in technical discussions to address application and performance requirements.

Manufacturing & Quality support

• Support Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and risk assessments.
• Assist in establishing test methods, specifications, and validation protocols.
• Work with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot design-related production issues.
• Follow SOPs, quality systems, and applicable ISO requirements.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) & Laboratory Operations

• Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by adhering to EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and laboratory best practices, while actively promoting a strong safety culture.
• Support laboratory operations through organization, housekeeping, equipment maintenance, calibration coordination, and inventory management of chemicals and laboratory supplies.
• Assist with compliance activities, including support for ISO standards, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in product development, process development, manufacturing engineering, materials development, or applied research.
• Experience designing and executing laboratory experiments, collecting data, and documenting results.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret experimental data and make data-driven recommendations.
• Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
• Ability to work effectively in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards and safe laboratory practices.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with limited supervision.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with membrane technologies, surface modification processes, and membrane characterization techniques.
• Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and data interpretation methods.
• Knowledge of Design Failure Mode and Features Analysis (DFMEA), root cause analysis, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience supporting pilot-scale trials, process development, and manufacturing scale-up activities.
• Familiarity with stage-gate product development processes and technology commercialization.
• Knowledge of quality systems, including SOP development, ISO requirements, laboratory documentation, and audit preparation.
• Experience supporting laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, calibration coordination, inventory management, and laboratory organization.
• Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and perform laboratory and manufacturing support activities for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, equipment, and samples weighing up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds with assistance when required.
• Ability to work with small components and samples in a laboratory setting, using precision and attention to detail.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, lab coats, protective footwear, and hearing protection, as applicable.
• Ability to work with chemicals while following established safety procedures.

• Compensation: $74,500- $102,000 per year range with actual pay dependent on candidate overall skills for the role
