Job summary

Abbott is seeking an R&D Engineer for a 12-month, 100% onsite assignment in Plymouth, MN. The role involves requirements influence on design goals, test method and model development, data analysis, and support across pre-clinical/clinical testing and regulatory compliance.

Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering plus 1+ year(s) of applicable experience is required, with strong collaboration and communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years’ experience designing, testing, manufacturing or other engineering support.
  • Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in collaborating with project stakeholders (client and internal), end-users, business partners, and technical team members.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in requirement development to influence design goals
  • Involved in test method and model development
  • Complete testing and data analysis to achieve design and process development goals

  • Identify potential issues with designs
  • Work with internal departments and outside vendors to obtain prototype parts

  • Execute activity in support of project goals
  • Gain an understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements of SJM, FDA and ISO regulations

  • Complies with FDA regulations, other regulatory requirements
  • Maintains positive communications with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities

Job description

Title: R&D Engineer


Location: Plymouth, MN


Duration: 12 Months


Contract: 100% Onsite


Primary Responsibilities


  • Involved in requirement development to influence design goals

  • Involved in test method and model development

  • Complete testing and data analysis to achieve design and process development goals

  • Under guidance, generating design concepts to meet specific design goals

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field

  • 1+ years’ experience designing, testing, manufacturing or other engineering support

  • Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization

  • Proficient in collaborating with project stakeholders (client and internal), end-users, business partners, and technical team members

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail


Preferred Qualifications


  • Medical device experience

  • Exposure to a variety of manufacturing processes used in medical devices, specifically deflectable sheaths and/or EP Catheters preferred

  • Solidworks or other CAD experience

  • Worked with an electronic document control system (Windchill, etc.)

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a geographically diverse, matrixed organization
