Job summary

MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, a business segment of Element Solutions Inc., is seeking an R&D Engineer I to support pilot plant operations and chemistry development, including synthesis experiments, DOE studies, and scale-up activities in a collaborative lab setting.

You will work with Technical Scientists and engineers to translate lab discoveries into pilot-scale processes, maintain safety and ISO-compliant records, and contribute to process optimization, technology transfer, and

Qualifications

  • Diploma or B.E./B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering or M.Sc. in Chemistry.
  • 2-5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, pilot plant operations, chemical process development, specialty chemicals, polymers or nanomaterial synthesis, process scale-up, manufacturing, or R&D support environments.
  • Hands-on experience with chemical processing equipment, unit operations, laboratory instrumentation, and pilot-scale systems.
  • Working knowledge of process safety, quality systems, EHS requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support R&D Scientists and project teams in synthesis experiments, DOE studies, process monitoring, and data collection to enable process development and scale-up.
  • Operate laboratory and pilot-scale equipment in safety, quality, and operational standards, while maintaining and updating SOPs and ISO-compliant documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of process conditions, operating parameters, observations, and experimental results, and prepare technical reports.
  • Assist in process development, scale-up, and technology transfer from laboratory through pilot plant to manufacturing, including experimental execution, data analysis, troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and process optimization.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot pilot plant equipment, including commissioning, preventive maintenance, and changeovers, while supporting technology development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage raw material, consumable, and finished product inventories to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support packaging, labeling, logistics, and sample shipment activities in coordination with R&D, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Maintain 5S standards, housekeeping, and safe work practices while demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.

Who are we looking for?

The R&D Engineer I will support pilot plant and laboratory operations to enable the successful execution of R&D and product development programs.

This role involves the hands-on operation of pilot plant equipment, execution of synthesis experiments and DOE studies, process monitoring, data collection, and accurate documentation while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day pilot plant operations and contribute to process troubleshooting, optimization, and scale-up activities, working closely with Technical Scientists, project leaders, and engineers to translate laboratory developments into pilot-scale processes.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to build technical expertise in chemical process development, pilot plant operations, and manufacturing scale-up within a collaborative and innovation-driven R&D environment.

Who are You?
