Job summary

Astrodyne TDI is seeking an R&D Electrical Engineer in Hackettstown, NJ to design and validate advanced switch-mode power converters and digital control loops. You will work across simulation, prototype development, and lab testing to translate concepts into robust hardware.

The role emphasizes hands-on power electronics, real-time firmware, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable power solutions for multiple industries.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of hands-on experience in switch-mode power supply design, power electronics, and/or digital control.
• Practical experience with Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers, including Code Composer Studio and C2000Ware.
• Solid understanding of classical and digital control concepts, including peak current mode, average current mode, and voltage mode control.
• Experience modeling power converters and closed-loop control systems using SIMPLIS, SIMetrix, QSpice, or comparable tools.
• Familiarity with high-frequency magnetic components, including inductors and transformers.
• Understanding of PCB layout considerations for high-frequency power electronics.
• Strong laboratory troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and evaluate switch-mode power converters, including PFC, resonant LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, buck, and boost topologies.
• Contribute to power architecture, circuit design, component selection, and design optimization.
• Develop high-reliability power conversion solutions for demanding industrial, medical, aerospace, and defense applications.
