nVent’s R&D Designer Internship offers hands‑on experience building mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models while supporting real‑world product development. You’ll work with engineers to move concepts toward manufacturing, gaining exposure to drafting standards and revision control.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Drafting, Mechanical Design, CAD Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or related degree program.
• Completed introductory coursework in CAD, technical drawing, or mechanical design.
• Basic experience with SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD system.
• Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings.
• Understanding of basic drafting concepts such as dimensions, orthographic views, and section views.

Responsibilities

• Create and update 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
• Assist with detailing, dimensioning, and preparing drawings for manufacturing.
• Revise drawings and models based on engineering feedback and design changes.
• Learn and apply company drafting standards, engineering practices, and revision-control processes.
• Work with engineers and designers to develop and improve mechanical designs.
• Gain exposure to manufacturing and quality considerations during the design process.
• Participate in design reviews and learn how designs are evaluated for function, manufacturability, and quality.
• Maintain accurate and organized engineering documentation.
