Job summary

Phoenix Tailings is seeking an R&D Analytical Chemist to drive the analytical backbone of our clean metals production technology. You will operate analytical instruments with autonomy for investigative analyses and quality control, while supporting method development and data generation to enable faster, safer, and scalable production of metals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields.
• 1-5 years of laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, R&D, quality control, or process support.
• Experience with ICP-OES / ICP-MS, XRF, PXRD, SEM-EDS, wet chemistry and sample digestion.
• Ability to work independently with unknown or complex samples and apply scientific reasoning.
• Familiarity with method development, validation, or adaptation for non-routine samples.
• Experience handling hazardous materials and wearing respirators.
• Ability to write clear technical reports translating data into conclusions.

Responsibilities

• Operate analytical instrumentation with autonomy to support investigative and QC testing.
• Perform ICP-OES analysis to characterize process samples and materials.
• Analyze unknown or partially characterized samples and identify composition and hazards.
• Collaborate with Senior Analytical Scientist on complex analyses and method development.
• Develop and refine analytical methods for identifying hazardous materials.
• Conduct FTIR gas analysis and other evolving techniques as needed.
• Generate clear, technically sound reports communicating findings and recommendations.
• Maintain safe laboratory practices handling unknown or reactive materials.
