Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in our Tampa, FL office. You will support the ITS/Traffic Engineering team with transportation design, plan production, calculations, and project documentation.

Use OpenRoads Designer and Civil 3D to support drawings and CADD production. The role emphasizes learning through hands-on tasks, field reviews when applicable, and collaboration in a team environment.

Qualifications

• 60 hours toward a Civil or Electrical engineering degree from an ABET program by Summer 2027.
• No experience required beyond enrollment in a related bachelor’s program.
• Ability to enter data in spreadsheets/forms/databases and use Excel.

Responsibilities

• Support ITS/Traffic Engineering team with transportation design and plan production.
• Perform calculations and assist with project documentation.
• Review field notes, as-builts and existing conditions; participate in field reviews when applicable.
• Contribute to team meetings and coordination efforts.

Job Description Overview AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern – Summer 2027 to join our Tampa, FL office. Your role Support the ITS/Traffic Engineering team with transportation design, plan production, calculations, and project documentation. Assist with traffic signalization, ITS, signing, pavement marking, and related transportation design tasks. Utilize computer software such as OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D to support drawings and CADD production. Review field notes, as-builts, and existing conditions information to support design development. Participate in field reviews when applicable. Participate in project coordination meetings, and team discussions. Support administrative and engineering tasks as assigned. About you EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required if accepted into a Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field. EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a Civil or Electrical engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2027). SPECIAL SKILLS: Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets, forms and/or databases. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Math skills to perform simple calculations and willingness to learn technical design workflows. Interest in traffic engineering, ITS, and transportation design. Experience with OpenRoads Designer and Civil 3D is preferred. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work from the Tampa, FL office during the internship period.
