Description

Position Summary:

The Quoting Engineer supports WLS Stamping's Business Development team by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for metal stamping and fabrication work. Working closely with engineering, tooling, and production, this entry-level role reviews customer prints and RFQs, calculates material, tooling, and labor costs, and helps convert inquiries into won business. This is a strong opportunity for an early-career candidate to build a broad, hands-on understanding of metal stamping and fabrication processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review customer RFQs, prints, specifications, and 3D models to determine the scope of work for stamped and fabricated metal parts.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates, including raw material, tooling, secondary operations (welding, finishing, assembly), and labor.
  • Obtain and compare vendor quotes for outside processing, raw materials, and tooling as needed.
  • Build and track quotes using the company's quoting/estimating software and ERP system through to completion.
  • Collaborate with engineering, tooling, and production teams to evaluate manufacturability and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify RFQ requirements and answer basic technical questions during the quoting process.
  • Maintain accurate quote records, follow up on outstanding quotes, and help track win/loss results.
  • Support the Business Development team with quote turnaround, proposal preparation, and pricing strategy.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of press capabilities, tooling design, and fabrication processes (laser cutting, forming, welding) to quoting work.
  • Assist with special costing projects, price list updates, and continuous improvement of the quoting process.
Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, quoting, estimating, or engineering support role; internship experience in metal stamping or fabrication is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D CAD models, or strong aptitude to learn.
  • Basic understanding of metal stamping and fabrication processes (progressive dies, laser cutting, press brake forming, welding), or willingness to learn on the job.
  • Strong math and analytical skills, with comfort working through cost calculations and spreadsheets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP or quoting software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple quotes and deadlines at once.
  • Self-motivated, curious, and comfortable asking questions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
