Job summary

University of Connecticut is seeking a senior operations leader to oversee the Quantum CT technology incubator, ensuring safe, efficient lab and facility operations. You will manage specialized equipment, provide technical training, and develop SOPs, training materials, and user guides.

You will work with EHS and compliance offices, liaise with startups and researchers, support onboarding, and monitor spend for facility operations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Applied Science, Technology Management, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of related experience working in a research laboratory, scientific facility, advanced technology environment, innovation center, incubator, or equivalent setting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical operations, specialized equipment, laboratory infrastructure, or research facilities.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, training, and support to researchers, laboratory users, industry partners, or other stakeholders.
  • Experience with laboratory safety practices, regulatory compliance requirements, and risk mitigation principles applicable to research or technical environments.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day startup related operations of the Quantum CT technology incubator, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of laboratory and technical facilities.
  • Manage and coordinate the use of specialized research equipment, shared instrumentation, and facility infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding facility capabilities, equipment availability, operational requirements, and laboratory best practices. Assist users with equipment and operational issues and coordinate specialized technical support when necessary.
  • Create and maintain user documentation, operational guides, and training materials.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations, equipment usage, and access management.
  • Establish and oversee preventative maintenance programs for mission-critical equipment and infrastructure and coordinate equipment repairs
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and regulations governing laboratory operations and research environments.
  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), research compliance offices, and other stakeholders to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and policies.
  • Serve as a liaison between Quantum CT startup companies, university researchers, industry partners, and external collaborators.
  • Support the successful onboarding of incubator tenants and facility users.
  • Monitor operational expenditures related to facility operations and technical infrastructure.
