IBM Quantum is seeking motivated CS/EE students to learn about and develop the world's first large-scale quantum computer. You will extend our pulse-level quantum compiler for a distributed, real-time microwave control system and collaborate with hardware teams to integrate compiler output with targets.

The role focuses on internships for 2027, requiring pursuing a degree in CS/CE/EE and experience with Rust and Python, Git/Linux, and real-time systems.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with Rust and Python.
• Experience in compiler design/implementation, robotics or real-time control systems, or microwave/RF systems.
• Experience with Git, Linux, and command-line environments.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Extend and enhance our pulse-level quantum compiler to support a next-generation logical qubit control system.
• Design and implement compiler passes and backend targets for a distributed, heterogeneous, hard-real-time microwave control system.
• Develop software and automation tools for testing and validating compiler correctness and real-time performance.
• Collaborate with control systems, FPGA, and runtime development teams to integrate compiler output with hardware targets.
