Job summary

HRL Laboratories, an IBM company, is seeking engineers to design, build, test, and analyze optical and photonic experiments for quantum communications. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance quantum technologies and contribute to deployable optical payloads.

Responsibilities include modeling, testing, data analysis, and troubleshooting alongside mechanical and electrical teams in a dynamic lab environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or related field.
• Experience with microfabrication, free-space or fiber optics, electronics, or computer-controlled experiments from coursework or internships.
• Strong desire to learn and work in a dynamic laboratory environment; good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and analyze optical, optoelectronic, and photonic experiments for quantum communications systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams to advance quantum communications technologies.
• Perform engineering and R&D tasks under supervision of staff scientists for next-gen quantum devices and deployable optical payloads.
• Design, model, test, and fabricate free-space and fiber optic experiments and semiconductor devices.
• Collect, analyze, and present data; troubleshoot complex systems with mechanical and electrical teams.
