Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Molecular Foundry seeks a Quantum Systems Accelerator Project Scientist to advance materials and fabrication science for high-performance superconducting qubits. You will develop ALD/ALE thin-film processes on the QIS cluster tool and study how composition, purity, and interfaces influence device performance.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field or equivalent work experience in nanofabrication.
  • Fabrication and cleanroom experience with ALD/ALE.
  • Experience fabricating superconducting devices (qubits, SQUIDs, resonators, Josephson junctions).
  • Experience interpreting X-ray and TEM characterization of material structure and composition.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to safety and onsite work 4+ days/week.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate in-process data with room temperature and low-temperature characterisation to map material-property relationships.
  • Develop ALD and ALE recipes for the QIS cluster tool at the Molecular Foundry.
  • Collaborate with Foundry staff to support users and joint research.
  • Prepare data for publication and present findings at seminars and conferences.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and promote environmental health and safety practices.
  • Provide technical direction to students and oversee experimentation.
  • Mentor collaborators in rigorous experimental design and nanofabrication practices.
