Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a Manager to lead the Quantum Computer Science Department, a multidisciplinary R&D group advancing foundational quantum computing research. You will provide people, technical, and strategic leadership for a high-performing team across qubit modeling, fault‑tolerant architectures, quantum algorithms, and system performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with 8+ years of directly relevant experience or equivalent.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access.
• Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience (preferred).
• Graduate degree (MS/PhD) and outstanding interpersonal skills are desirable.
• Experience leading or contributing to complex R&D projects with open research and mission-relevant outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of staff scientists, postdocs, students, and collaborators.
• Partner with staff, managers, university collaborators, and sponsors to deliver on technical commitments.
• Shape and communicate Sandia's strategy for quantum information science at laboratory, regional, and national levels.
• Represent Sandia's quantum computing portfolio to internal leadership, sponsors, academia, and industry partners.
• Develop new programs, partnerships, proposals, and technical directions aligned with Sandia’s mission.
• Recruit, hire, retain, mentor, and develop QIS leaders across the department.
• Build cross-cutting relationships with internal partners, universities, and government organizations.
• Collaborate with Center 1400 management to set strategic direction and grow the research portfolio.
