Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Civil Engineering professional to support liaising between engineering and field operations on a 2000MW pumped storage EPC project in Tempe, AZ. You will help develop constructability plans, coordinate design decisions, and monitor performance to implement improvements.

You will work with a joint venture team on underground waterways, dams, and associated facilities, ensuring conformance to specifications while supporting progress reporting and safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction drawings, sketches, projections and schedules for workforce, material and equipment.

• Initiate field purchase requisitions and support material takeoffs.

Project Overview

Our customer is a utility in Arizona looking to add 2000MW of pumped storage energy to its overall capacity to meet growing demand on its network. We are building a high performing joint venture team to deliver this complex EPC heavy civil project and looking for motivated, hands-on, collaborative innovators, doers, and problem solvers. The project will involve the use of an lower reservoir and creation of an upper reservoir through the construction of new dams. The reservoirs will be connected by underground waterways tunneled into the rock, channeling water down the ~1,200ft drop between the two reservoirs. The project scope includes significant access road development, construction of the upper reservoir with dams and an overflow spillway, underground tunnel waterways in challenging geological and hydrogeological conditions, upper and lower reservoir inlet/outlet structures, hydromechanical equipment, an underground powerhouse, and surface site facilities and buildings. Job Summary

In this role, you will support liaison between engineering and field operations and assist in developing executing constructability plans. You will coordinate construction design decisions and interdisciplinary reviews. You will monitor construction performance, analyze data, develop plans and deliverables. You will use your expertise to develop and improve the planned methods by initiating project assessments and implementing improvements.

Major Responsibilities

Work Planning & Packaging

• Supports in the preparation of construction drawings, sketches, projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements
• Supports in planning construction methods and procedures
• Assists in the preparation of installation work packages
• Assists in the preparation of daily progress reports, periodic photographic progress reports and keeps supervisors informed on progress of assigned tasks
• Assists in the preparation of FCDs as required to provide current as built documentation

Material Management

• Initiates requisitions for field purchases
• Supports in preparation of quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment
• Assists in reviewing of vendor material and/or equipment submittals to ensure conformance to engineering requirements, as assigned
• Assists in the reviewing of subcontractor submittals

Quantities

• Monitors commodities on quantity tracking systems
• Assists in the inspection / documentation of installed materials
• Supports in the tracking progress of assigned self-perform or subcontract crews for input to project schedules and cost reports

Safety & Quality

• Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely
• Assists housekeeping and cleanliness of the project
• Assist in the verification of material quality, workmanship, and assures results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications, and design drawings
• Assists in coordinating and resolving construction problems with Superintendents or other project personnel
• Develops core understanding of construction site ES&H

Technical

• Assists supporting construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents
• Assists in the coordination of engineering solutions with subcontractors, Superintendents, and Foremen.
• Supports in development of commodity installation and tracking approach
• Develops understanding of Industry / International Codes & Standards applicable to work scope.
• Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or 3-4 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering; or Associated Degree in a technical subject and 2-4 years of related experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of civil construction techniques:
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Concrete works
• Strong communication, and stakeholder management skills.
