Job summary

J Murphy & Sons is seeking a qualified Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Colchester, working on energy-related projects from Norwich to Tilbury. The role focuses on commercial reporting, valuations, cost control, and subcontracts administration across EPC-style assignments.

You will manage subcontract and material procurement, monitor cost variances, and support final accounts while identifying risks and value engineering opportunities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience within a Commercial role i.e., Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, or a similar role.
• Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards chartership.
• Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC) and Standard Methods of Measurement

Responsibilities

• Aid in internal commercial reporting and any other reports required.
• Prepare Valuations/Applications for Payment with full documentation per contract.
• Control of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant documentation
• Preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules
• Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from requisitions to final accounts
• Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain registers
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
• Use cost allocation/coding to satisfy internal and external requirements
• Measurement of quantities per standard methods of measurement
• Assist in preparation of project final accounts
• Draft subcontracts including professional services
