Job summary

Volex is seeking an on-site X-ray inspection technician in Irvine, CA. You will set up and operate 3D X-ray inspection equipment to examine PCBA assemblies for defects and variances.

You will interpret 3D images to determine acceptability of solder joints and component placement, and review related paperwork to ensure correct inspection sequencing. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in manufacturing QC, are US persons, and can read and understand English.

Qualifications

• At least three years in a technical manufacturing environment, preferably in quality assurance.

About the Role

Set up, program and operate 3D X-ray inspection equipment to examine PCBAs for solder joint defects, voiding, bridging, misalignment, and other anomalies, assess and interpret 3D X-ray images to determine acceptability of solder joints and component placement, interpret labor routers, work instructions, and PCBA assembly drawings to determine inspection requirements and sequencing, and support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with AS9100 and ISO 13485 quality management system requirements.

Responsibilities

• Set up, program and operate 3D X-ray inspection equipment to examine PCBAs for solder joint defects, voiding, bridging, misalignment, and other anomalies
• Assess and interpret 3D X-ray images to determine acceptability of solder joints and component placement, with a focus on bottom termination components
• Interpret labor routers, work instructions, and PCBA assembly drawings to determine inspection requirements and sequencing.
• Must be able to read and understand English.
• Understand component-specific requirements, including unique considerations for BTCs and other hard-to-inspect package types
• Accurately complete and maintain inspection reports and quality documentation in accordance with company procedures
• Retrieve and provide reference images from work orders upon request by engineering, quality, or production personnel
• Identify and elevate nonconforming product per established quality procedures
• Maintain calibration, cleanliness, and proper operation of X-ray inspection equipment
• Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve inspection discrepancies
• Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and production demands in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection processes and defect reduction
• Maintain compliance with AS9100 and ISO 13485 quality management system requirements

Qualifications

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must have at least three years experience in a technical manufacturing environment, preferably in quality assurance.
• MUST BE A US PERSON.
