Job summary

Applied Composites is seeking an NDT Technician II to perform ultrasonic testing on fabricated composite parts and products, identifying discontinuities in laminate and sandwich constructions.

The role involves calibrating equipment, applying UT procedures, and preparing defect reports. Strong communication and the ability to work in a team are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combo with work experience.
  • Ultrasonic Inspector Level III Certificate required.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in UT-NDI testing for composites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in A-Scan (Pulse Echo), C-Scan (Pulse Echo/Through Transmission) techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews work orders, test procedures, and acceptance criteria to determine test specifications.
  • Calibrates and adjusts ultrasonic test equipment to required standards.
  • Applies UT testing procedures to identify discontinuities (cracks, inclusions, porosity).
  • Marks defects and prepares test reports.
  • May set up and operate computerized inspection equipment.

Job description

Applied Composites is seeking an NDT Technician II that conducts ultrasonic tests on fabricated composite parts (laminate & sandwich construction) and products to identify discontinuities.

Job Accountabilities
  • Reviews work orders, test procedure sheets, and product acceptance criteria to determine test specifications.
  • Calibrates and adjusts ultrasonic test equipment to required standards and settings, applying knowledge of ultrasonic testing procedures.
  • Sprays couplet (light oil which acts as a medium) or other liquid over part to be tested, moves transducer over part to be tested, and observes CRT (cathode ray tube) screen to detect patterns of discontinuity, such as cracks, inclusions, bonding defects, or porosity.
  • Marks defective areas of part or product and prepares report of test findings.
  • May set up and operate computerized inspection equipment.
Job Requirements
  • High School
  • Ultrasonic Inspector Level III Certificate
  • Experience in composite UT-NDI Testing (3 – 5 yrs).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A-Scan, (Pulse Echo), C-Scan, (Pulse Echo & Through Transmission

Job Specifications
Education

Requires a High School Diploma/GED or combination of relevant education and work experience may be substituted to meet educational requirements.

Years' Experience

8 (plus) years of relevant experience

Skills
  • Expert level experience using Laser Trackers (Leica, Faro and API), PCMM's (Romer and Faro arms), 3D Laser scanners and Total Stations
  • Expert level knowledge of Computer Aided Measuring software (Verisurf, Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer, Buildit etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Expert level knowledge in blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Solid knowledge of 3D CAD
  • Knowledge in aerospace tooling, composites manufacturing and assembly
