Job summary

Sonoco Products is seeking a Quality Technician I at TEQ 11320 E. Main Street, Huntley, IL 60142. The role focuses on following the inspection plan, guiding manufacturing staff, and recording First Piece and In‑Process inspections.

You will monitor the process, collect dimensional data, and maintain testing records while ensuring packing standards and proper labeling. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 6 months of production/inspection experience, and familiarity with measuring

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months production line and inspection experience.
  • Quality Assurance experience preferred.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments.
  • Strong math and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follow inspection control plan for manufactured items.
  • Instruct Manufacturing staff on job requirements.
  • Coordinate and record First Piece and In‑Process Inspection.
  • Monitor production and collect dimensional data.
  • Maintain inspection records and retention.
  • Quarantine non‑conforming products per plan.
  • Ensure proper packing standards and labeling.
  • Operate measuring equipment and scanners as needed.
  • Input SPC data and adhere to controlled environment procedures.

Position: Quality Technician I

Location: TEQ 11320 E. Main Street, Huntley, IL 60142

Wage: $22.23 plus $1.25 shift differential

Shift: 2nd shift (3:15 PM – 1:45 AM)

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Reviews, understands, and follows the inspection control plan for manufactured items
  • Instructs and advises the Manufacturing staff on the specific requirements of each job
  • Coordinates, conducts and records First Piece and In‑Process Inspection and Testing
  • Monitors the production process and collects dimensional data
  • Maintains all inspection and testing records, coordinates record retention
  • Quarantines all non‑conforming products and raw material as per inspection control plan
  • Understands and ensures proper packing standards
  • Effectively utilizes testing and measuring equipment including scales, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, magna mikes, burst tester, and barcode scanner
  • Understands and ensures Minimum Workmanship Requirements
  • Understands and uses TEQ terminology
  • Inputs SPC data as requested
  • Maintains, controls, and prints labels
  • Understands and consistently complies with Controlled Environment Procedures

  • You have a High school Diploma or equivalent
  • You have 6 months previous production line and inspection experience
  • You have Quality Assurance experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • You can use Measuring Instruments and Thermoforming manufacturing equipment
  • You can continuously lift, reach, stand, push, pull, and walk throughout the day with good vision
  • You can pay attention to detail with good written and verbal communication skills
  • You have strong math and problem‑solving skills
  • You have print reading skills and the ability to properly prioritize activities and projects
  • You are comfortable working in heat with controlled production environment
