Job summary

Magna International, Cosma Group, Birmingham, AL, seeks a Casting Quality Technician to audit cast parts and processes, determine release readiness, and support customer quality requirements. You will perform system and process audits, manage documentation, and uphold safety and quality across manufacturing operations.

Ideal candidates have QA auditing experience, knowledge of GD&T and SPC, and strong skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience as a QA Auditor preferred.
  • Proven track record in cosmetic, functional testing and dimensional inspections.
  • Proficiency with GD&T, SPC and quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality system audits and material certifications.
  • Audit X-Ray, porosity and wall thickness processes.
  • Support customer specifications and approval decisions.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping standards in the plant.

The Quality Technician will give K3 Casting team/lines approval or not to proceed with production, support plant needs as necessary. The Quality Technician is responsible for their safety and well-being as well as quality, part audits, system audits, customer cost, productivity, and ergo. This will be achieved by using company policies, SOP’s, WI, Procedures and the Magna Employee’s Charter as a guideline.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFollow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programsUnderstand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna’s Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter).Responsible for keeping boundary parts in secure area to use for comparison on future runsResponsible for making decisions on findings to determine if acceptable to Customer or not, support Customer Specific StandardsQuality System AuditsPerform Incoming Receiving AuditsPerform Material Certification AuditsPerform Spectrometer process AuditsPerform Melt Furnace process/recipe AuditsPerform Casting Line process/recipe AuditsPerform Line process/part Porosity AuditsAudit X-Ray processPerform/Audit Blister Check processPerform Wall Thickness AuditsPerform/Audit Mechanical Properties of Tensile, Yield, Ductility, Hardness, Punch, and BrinnellPerform Check Fixture AuditsPerform CMM/Dimensional AuditsPerform DOCK AuditsSupport Operations in making quality calls with product in conjunction with Customer specsResponsible to report NC findings immediately to LeadershipResponsible for roundtable meetings for quality alerts, and containment of non-conforming product.Promote good housekeepingPerform other duties as requiredPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or GEDExperience as a QA AuditorProven track record in cosmetic, functional testing and dimensional inspections.Ability to learn Casting processGD& T, Weld Standards, Manufacturing Practices, SPCComputer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointDemonstrated proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools including tape measures, scales, Vernier calipers, etc.Casting experience a plus.Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook Express.PDCA/8D/5 why knowledge a plus.Confidence to make decision on findings and support decision with evidenceGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility to travel for training and workUnderstand Customer standardsAwareness, Unity, Empowerment:At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success.
