Job summary

Pure’s Food Specialties, LLC. is hiring a Quality Assurance Technician to protect the food supply by sampling, testing, and documenting to meet regulatory and customer requirements at our Bedford Park facility.

You will support QA Supervisors, oversee QA Technicians, and participate in daily/weekly inspections, HACCP and GMP compliance, and supplier material checks, while handling multiple shifts as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with some college science courses or experience in the food industry.
  • Training in HACCP and GFSI standards (such as BRC or SQF) is preferred.
  • Strong writing, mathematics, and critical thinking skills.

Job description

About the Role

The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician has the primary responsibility for protecting the food by conducting food safety and quality sampling, testing, and documentation to meet all regulatory, customer and Pures Foods requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Meet all applicable food regulations (international, national, state, and local).
  • Sample, test, and document procedures, records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Maintain the safety, legality and quality of each food and the processes used in their manufacture.
  • Meet and exceed customer requirements.
  • Reduce customer/consumer complaints for foods manufactured on site.
  • Report food safety and quality issues to supervisor.
  • Hold product based on food safety or quality non-conformance.
  • Participate in daily food evaluation to identify possible defects.
  • Participate in weekly physical bakery inspections on each area (pest control, operational methods, maintenance for food safety, sanitation, personnel practices, etc.).
  • Select food items for analysis at specified stages in the production process for evaluating compliance to specification.
  • Use instrumentation such as thermometers, metal detectors, ray devices, calculators, scales, gauges, calipers, rulers, moisture analyzers, ovens.
  • Assure materials are received from approved suppliers and conduct raw material supplier performance monitoring.
  • Participate in Environmental Monitoring Programs (i.e., collecting swab samples, using the ATP system).
  • Print finished food case labels as appropriate to the bakery or kitchen.
  • Communicate food safety/QA issues with Production Supervisors and QA Technicians at shift change.
  • Manage and execute changes as assigned.
  • Oversee Quality Technicians.
  • Work different shifts and weekends.

Requirements
  • Effective work ethic and good communication skills.
  • High School Diploma, some college science courses or experience in the food industry.
  • Training in HACCP.
  • Training in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF.
  • Good writing, mathematics, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in computers including spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency level: Education, technical qualifications, experience and competencies as described.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to climb, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Use a computer keyboard and monitor more than 25% of total work time.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and extreme cold.
  • Noise level often moderate to loud.
