Job summary

Palmetto State Armory is seeking a Quality Technician to support the Quality Lab in West Columbia, SC. The role focuses on inspecting parts, programming CMMs, and ensuring parts meet quality standards while coordinating with engineering, management, and suppliers.

You will learn and implement new inspection technologies, train inspectors in measurement techniques, and maintain CMM Lab organization. This full-time role requires a proactive, detail-oriented candidate with a strong quality mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus 4 years of experience as a Quality Inspector.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, internal or external, including Dimensions, GD&T.
• Ability to use hand measurement tools and operate complex measuring equipment.
• Ability to apply problem solving techniques (5 Why, KT, Fishbone Diagram, etc.)
• Ability to communicate effectively in a technical manner.
• Desire to improve themselves, the quality system and instill a quality mentality into co-workers.
• Energetic, positive, and able to think laterally to follow through with reasoned decision making.
• Ability to read and understand Safety Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, Forms etc.
• Ability to assist in the communication of the quality system requirements to other personnel.

Responsibilities

• Program and run CMM on suspect parts in an organized methodical fashion.
• Use CMM data to support Q-Incoming and Assembly issues.
• Interprets prints and GD&T callouts and perform open setups to support Inspectors during inspections.
• Work with Eng/Mgt/Suppliers providing requested data to print and customer specifications.
• Interact with departments regarding disposition of PPAP/FAI submissions as well as identify concerns about submissions.
• Perform quality testing to assist the implementation of continuous improvement of parts and products.
• Audit Q-Incoming Inspections, random and scheduled, for validation of Q-Incoming processes.
• Responsible to learn and teach new inspection technologies as needed.
• Train inspectors how to perform inspections and ensure repeatable and reproduceable measurements.
• Develop and maintain Keyence programs for part inspections.
• Implement methods to inspect, test, and evaluate reliability, precision, and accuracy of processes, products, and production equipment.
• Maintain CMM and CMM Lab areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Ability to analyze quality data to certify or reject products and communicate results appropriately.
• Ensure products adhere to company and industry quality standards through incoming inspection, sample testing, and evaluation.
• Ensure expedient processing of non-conforming material. Ensure Receiving Inspection Log is accurate.
• Maintain and distribute digital MRB records and provide technical support to the NCM team.
• All other duties, as assigned.

JOB PURPOSE

The Quality Technician is responsible for supporting the Quality Lab by designing, improving, and executing processes and procedures for inspecting products. This position will utilize measurement and test equipment to verify material meets or exceeds the current quality standards internally and externally. Approach quality issues systemically, while supporting the inspection process by performing dimensional layouts and other quality checks on internal and external components. Work alongside various functional groups to enhance product quality and will directly report to the Quality Lab Engineer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Employees work in controlled and uncontrolled climates.

• Overtime hours may be required, including weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Team members are constantly standing, walking, carrying, pulling/pushing, bending, seeing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, hearing, as well as handling paperwork.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs safely.
• Standard 8-hour shifts with potential overtime.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Must have excellent dexterity to quickly sort through and remove/replace parts needed.
