Job description

Job Title: Quality Technician / QA Process Quality Inspector
Job Description

The Quality Technician / QA Process Quality Inspector plays a hands-on role on the production floor, spending more than 80% of the day in manufacturing suites to ensure full compliance with cGMP and quality standards. This position partners closely with production operators, leads, and supervisors to monitor processes, conduct real-time quality checks, support investigations and CAPA activities, and ensure documentation is accurate and complete. The role is ideal for someone with quality experience who enjoys coaching others, working in a smaller, team-oriented environment, and taking initiative to improve processes and training.

Responsibilities
  • Spend the majority of the day (80%+) on the production floor, observing operations and verifying adherence to cGMP and quality procedures.
  • Participate in shift transfer with first shift Process Quality Inspector to communicate events, issues, and status from the prior shift.
  • Meet with the production supervisor before the shift starts to review any corrections, outstanding paperwork, and priorities for the day.
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs of each unit and suite to check how operations are running and confirm that teams are compliant with cGMP and internal procedures.
  • Remain available to production operators as a quality resource while minimizing disruption to their workflow.
  • Perform follow-up walk-throughs approximately one hour after initial checks to monitor ongoing compliance and address emerging issues.
  • Review production and quality documentation to ensure there are no blanks, no unauthorized write-overs, and that all entries meet documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to correct documentation issues, add appropriate footnotes, and ensure records are complete and accurate.
  • Carry out real-time corrections and provide training related to incidents, deviations, and nonconformances.
  • Support the development and delivery of trainings that address incidents and deviations, working closely with supervisors to implement improvements.
  • Check and verify clean downs, cleanliness of suites, and equipment, performing inspections and signing off when standards are met.
  • Inspect all parts and components in the suite as needed to confirm they meet quality requirements.
  • Complete required quality and production paperwork and ensure all documentation is processed in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Act as backup for QA sampling activities, ensuring samples are collected and handled according to procedures.
  • Serve as backup for labeling of raw materials, including printing approval labels for materials that are approved or retested for production use.
  • Conduct and support quality investigations as part of the QA function, gathering information and documenting findings.
  • Assist with CAPA-related work by participating in investigations and helping implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead and coach production staff in understanding and following quality standards, demonstrating authority and confidence when addressing issues.
  • Work closely with production supervisors to resolve problems on the floor, aligning on actions and ensuring consistent communication.
  • Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and strong time management, including consistent punctuality and adherence to schedules.
  • Bring initiative to the role by identifying opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and training within the quality function.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 13+ years of experience in a cGMP pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, or dietary supplement manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 13+ years of quality, QA, or auditing experience, with at least 1 year required.
  • 13+ years of production floor experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Working knowledge of GMP and cGMP standards and practices.
  • Experience in quality assurance within pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards such as ISO 9001 in a production or quality environment.
  • Background in production operator or production technician roles, or similar manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to perform detailed documentation review, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with quality requirements.
  • Experience supporting or conducting investigations and CAPA activities within a QA function.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with production operators, leads, and supervisors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and be authoritative when addressing production or quality issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Consistent punctuality and strong sense of responsibility for quality and compliance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, or dietary supplement manufacturing environments is highly valued.
  • Exposure to biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or laboratory settings is beneficial.
  • Bilingual communication skills are ideal but not mandatory.
  • Experience as a production lead or assistant lead, including handling problems on the floor and guiding others, is a strong plus.
  • Comfort in taking initiative to identify and address issues and propose improvements.
  • Interest in advancing within the QA department into office-based roles or broader QA functions.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail and compliance.
  • Understanding of batch review and approval processes within a QC or QA setting is advantageous.
Work Environment

This role operates within a small, close-knit QA team of fewer than ten people, offering a collaborative environment where each persons contributions are visible and valued. The position is primarily based on the production floor in cGMP-compliant suites, with regular movement between units to observe operations, verify cleanliness, and interact with production staff. The environment emphasizes teamwork between QA and production, with overlapping schedules among multiple Process Quality Inspectors to ensure coverage across shifts. Overtime is not heavily expected at present, and the organization aims to maintain manageable workloads. The company offers a robust benefits package that can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs for employees and supports work-life balance through a generous PTO program: fulltime employees can accrue up to 17 days (136 hours) of PTO in their first year, increasing to 22 days (176 hours) after the first 12 months, with rollover allowed based on years of service. Employees may use accrued PTO immediately, subject to supervisor approval, and this policy applies to both contract and permanent staff. The culture reflects a smaller company setting where employees are treated as individuals rather than numbers, and there are clear opportunities for advancement within the QA department and into broader quality functions.
