Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Quality Technician for a contract, onsite role in Michigan City, IN. You will perform incoming inspections on materials and components, verify dimensional and visual criteria, and maintain accurate quality records. The position requires hands-on work with calipers, micrometers, and GD&T familiarity, with strong attention to detail and independence.

The role operates Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with voluntary overtime.

Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician supports incoming inspection activities in a fast-paced mechanical product manufacturing environment. In this role, you verify that purchased materials and components meet engineering and quality standards through detailed dimensional, visual, and documentation inspections. You contribute directly to product quality, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and play a hands‑on role with significant autonomy and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming inspections on purchased materials and components to ensure they meet established engineering and quality standards.
• Conduct precise dimensional and visual inspections using measurement tools on fabricated metal parts, machined components, electrical components, wire harnesses, and assemblies.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria to determine appropriate inspection methods and acceptance requirements.
• Complete inspection documentation accurately and maintain organized, up-to-date quality records.
• Identify non-conforming materials and quality concerns, and promptly report findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Support investigations of quality issues by providing inspection data and participating in root cause analysis.
• Assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions to address identified quality problems.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to maintain and improve overall quality standards.
• Contribute to departmental quality initiatives and continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing inspection processes and product quality.
• Use basic computer systems and ERP tools, as applicable, to record inspection results and access relevant documentation.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and gauges.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how mechanical and electromechanical components function and fit together.
• High attention to detail when performing dimensional and visual inspections and reviewing documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria.
• Experience documenting inspection results and maintaining accurate quality records using basic computer applications.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing inspection workload effectively.
• Understanding of quality control principles and non-conforming material processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with ERP software for accessing part information and recording inspection data.
• Professional certifications in quality such as ASQ or Six Sigma are highly desirable.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams.
• Interest in expanding technical inspection and quality skills through ongoing learning and participation in continuous improvement activities.

Work Environment

This role operates in a mechanical product manufacturing environment that is fast-paced and team-oriented. You will work hands‑on with a variety of mechanical and electromechanical products, performing inspections at incoming material areas and production-related workstations. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with 1–2 hours of voluntary overtime typically available. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
