Qualifications

Job Description: Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector ensures consistent product quality by performing close-tolerance mechanical inspections on metal stamped and fabricated parts, components, assemblies, and materials. This role focuses on developing and enforcing manufacturing practices and systems, validating processes, and providing accurate documentation to support quality excellence in a metals fabrication and metal stamping environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform first article, incoming, in-process, and final inspections of purchased parts, tight-tolerance machined parts, stamped and fabricated parts, components, assemblies, and materials.

• Conduct close/tight tolerance mechanical inspections to verify conformance to specifications and customer requirements.

• Use measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and thread gauges to inspect parts and assemblies.

• Read and interpret blueprints, including understanding critical, major, and minor characteristics, to ensure accurate inspection and documentation.

• Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming products by attaching Red Tags and/or Red NC Tags and following established non-conformance procedures.

• Apply knowledge of metal stamping processes, including progressive dies and single stroke dies, and fabrication processes such as laser cutting and assembly, during inspection activities.

• Contribute to the development and enforcement of manufacturing practices and quality systems to maintain consistent quality standards.

• Validate production processes and inspection methods to ensure they meet quality and customer-service standards.

• Prepare and complete action plans related to quality issues, including identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and monitoring effectiveness.

• Participate in strategic plans and reviews by providing quality-related information and analysis to support operational objectives.

• Complete audits of products, processes, and documentation to identify opportunities for system improvements.

• Determine and implement system and process improvements that enhance production, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.

• Support the implementation of changes to quality procedures and standards and ensure proper documentation and communication.

• Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements and internal quality procedures.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience performing close/tight tolerance mechanical inspections.

• Proven ability to perform first article, incoming, in-process, and final inspections on machined, stamped, and fabricated metal parts and assemblies.

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, including understanding critical, major, and minor characteristics.

• Hands-ons experience using measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and thread gauges.

• Experience with metal stamping processes, including progressive dies and single stroke dies.

• Experience with metal fabrication processes such as laser cutting and assembly.

• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.

• Experience in quality inspection, quality control, quality assurance, or quality technician roles.

• Ability to accurately document non-conforming products and follow established non-conformance procedures.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight tolerances in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.

• Knowledge of IATF standards is a plus.

• Experience in a metals fabrication and metal stamping company is highly desirable.

• Ability to contribute to strategic plans and reviews by providing quality-related information and analysis.

• Capability to prepare and complete action plans related to quality, productivity, and customer-service standards.

• Experience completing audits and identifying opportunities for system and process improvements.

• Ability to support implementation of change in manufacturing and quality systems.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve quality and process issues.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
