Job summary

Bodycote in Rancho Dominguez, CA, seeks a Quality Technician to perform essential heat-treatment quality work under the Quality Manager. You’ll assist operations, monitor QA processes, and ensure compliance with customer specs while supporting continuous improvement.

The role requires metallurgical knowledge, a year of QC experience, and proficiency with MS Office. ITAR compliance is mandatory; strong teamwork and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

  • ITAR compliance requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Metallurgical knowledge from university training or equivalent experience; degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of quality control experience in heat treatment environments.
  • Ability to read/write English and communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or willingness to obtain it; familiarity with ASME/military specs.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and record conditions affecting quality and initiate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental efforts to meet QA requirements.
  • Identify quality training needs and ensure training is provided.
  • Communicate status of the quality management system to stakeholders.
  • Monitor quality records, maintain BMS, and support audits and non-conformances.

Position Summary

Based in Rancho Dominguez the Quality Technician will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the Quality Manager to meet customer specifications including assisting other employees as needed.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
  • Identifying and recording present or potential conditions that would have a detrimental effect on product, process, or the quality system and initiating corrective or preventive action procedures to address these conditions and verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions. May include controlling or stopping further processing of product until corrective action has been satisfactorily implemented.
  • Coordinating the interdepartmental efforts required to comply with quality assurance requirements.
  • Identifying quality training needs and taking steps to ensure training is provided.
  • Communicating to all levels on the status of the quality management system.
  • Assist in general quality activities including control of quality records, monitoring quality objectives at all levels, implement, monitor, and maintain the BMS, evaluation/disposition of non- conformances, audits (on site and internal), implementation and support of the navigator operating system.
  • Monitor and maintain outside processing including evaluation of suppliers, generating purchase orders, review certifications of conformances and review test reports.
  • Practice and promotes safety and good housekeeping
  • Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism
  • Perform other tasks as designated by position
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage
Qualifications:
  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
  • Education - Must possess basic metallurgical knowledge obtained through formal university or college training or combination of training and experience. Metallurgical or material science degree preferred, will consider certificate of training and/or work experience in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in Quality Control and practical knowledge of commercial heat treatment of steel, aluminum, titanium, nickel, brass, copper, etc. desired
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language to interface with management and all levels, both in-house and at customer’s place of business
  • Must be capable of writing general procedures for heat treatment of specific alloys, in accordance with customer needs.
  • Must be capable of making written recommendations for improving Quality System and Procedures.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with commercial, aircraft, and aerospace specification, ASME and military specification codes as required.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is required
  • Must be able to read/interpret blueprints/specifications, be detail oriented to meet deadlines.
Physical & Mental Demands:
  • Must be able to work in a sitting and standing position for extended periods of time in an office/industrial environment
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.
Pay & Benefits Information

The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 – $27.00 hour. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law.

Benefits include employee and family medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage; company paid life and disability; HSA/FSA options; 401(k) with company match; paid time off and paid holidays; and an Employee Assistance Program. Benefits eligibility begins on day 61 of employment.
