Job summary

Prestage is seeking a quality technician for our poultry processing facility. The role ensures products are produced safely and in compliance with GMP, SSOP, HACCP, USDA and customer requirements. You will perform required lab tests and support training on food safety standards.

The position requires 2+ years in food processing or a related field, with an associates in a technical field preferred. Bi-lingual candidates are a plus and strong attention to detail is essential.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a technical field is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in food processing or related field.
  • Bi-lingual communication is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all products are produced safely and in compliance with GMP, SSOP, HACCP, USDA and Customer requirements.
  • Perform and document required lab tests and checks throughout the processing and shipment stages.
  • Assist training for GMPs, HACCP, SSOP and USDA regulatory compliance.
  • Audit work practices and procedures for food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with operations and USDA to meet state and federal regulations and promote a safe work environment.
  • Cross-train and cover duties for processing and quality lab.

Job description

General:

Responsible for assuring all products being produced at a 300-employee poultry processing facility are safe and compliant with regulatory and Customer requirements. Works to ensure any potential food safety quality incidents are prevented. Promotes food safety and GMP awareness. The position reports to the quality supervisor w/ primary 4- day work week schedule (Tues. - Fri.) day shift, with flexibility to work early shift (3am & 5am), overtime (Monday's), and weekends, as needed.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Ensures all products are being produced in a safe manner and in compliance with all GMP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP, USDA and Customer requirements.
  • Provides input and helps enforce food safety procedures and best practices
  • Performs a variety of checks and tests in poultry processing facility (incoming thru shipment)
  • Supports training for GMP’s, HACCP, SSOP, and USDA regulation compliance for employees
  • Audits work practices, environment, and procedures for food safety / regulatory compliance
  • Works with operations and partners with USDA to meet state and federal regulations and promote a safe work environment.
  • Cross trains and covers duties / responsibilities for 1st and 2nd processing & quality lab.
  • Performs and accurately documents all required lab tests
  • Demonstrates analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
Education:
  • Associates degree in technical field (preferred / not required)
Experience:
  • Min. of 2 years of work experience in food processing or related field
  • Quality technician experience in food processing (preferred/not required)
Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
  • Quality-related experience in an industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of quality systems
  • Solid understanding of food safety regulations
  • Detailed-oriented; able to work in fast-paced environment
  • Concise communication and interpersonal skills; able to work w/ various levels of organization
  • Bi-lingual communicator, a plus
Physical Requirements:
  • Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 10 hrs./shift performing repetitive motion
  • Work safely in hot, cold, wet environment w/ varying temperatures (e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees)
  • Exercise strong hand-eye coordination in handling whole & parts of birds
