Job summary

Trane Technologies, Grand Rapids, MI, seeks a Quality Engineer to execute PPAP tasks, perform quality inspections, and collaborate with Engineering and Production to drive continuous improvement. On-site role requiring solid ability to read drawings and use measurement tools.

Candidates should have 2+ years in Quality, familiar with CMM/GDT, and be prepared to document non-conforming material and participate in root cause analysis.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Quality areas.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality measurement tools including dimensional and electrical measuring equipment.
  • Ability to learn CMM and GDT as plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute PPAP tasks and assess PPAP levels per BOS CRA procedure.
  • Perform quality inspections and document non-conforming material (NCM).
  • Interface with Engineering and Production to troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain Windchill data and complete P-24 per criteria.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis and problem solving with cross-functional teams.

Job Description
About the Role – You will:
  • Execute Component Risk Assessment procedure for all the New PPAP Task: SPDCR, RTS, NDP, Relocation, VAVE projects, etc. to define the PPAP level that will be requested to the Suppliers. (according to BOS CRA procedure).
  • Notify the Suppliers and Internal peers the PPAP Level for parts. Send the PPAP Package (PSW complete file) to Supplier. Handle all PPAP’s tasks in Windchill.
  • Evaluate PPAP’s according to Engineering Drawing and Trane Technologies specifications. Evaluations include dimensional and compliance with Trane Specs: Metallurgical results, chemical analysis, Hardness, Functional test results: Hipot, Continuity, Polarity, Burst Test, etc.
  • Execute Fit, Form and Function for components and get the Approval signatures from Manufacturing Engineers, Product Engineers, Production Supervisors, SQE.
  • Notify PPAP Status to suppliers and Project members.
  • Complete P-24 in Windchill system according to the criteria.
  • Identify Critical features in New drawings to start requesting Monthly Report (CP and CPK) to the Suppliers.
  • Know how to read and interpret engineering requirements from text and drawings.
  • Know how to use a variety of tools, precision-measuring instruments, and volt meters.
  • Conduct technical quality assurance inspections and use results to improve production processes and standards.
  • Actively participle in Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving.
  • Interface with engineering and production departments to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and to develop rework/repair instructions and procedures.
  • Maintain clean, accurate data and documentation of all non-conforming material detected in Production. Perform, follow up, train and maintain the NCM process.
  • Perform inspection and audit duties on a variety of parts/units involving first piece, in process and final inspection.
  • Know how to read and interpret engineering requirements from text and drawings.
  • Know how to use a variety of tools, precision-measuring instruments, and volt meters.
  • Be responsible for attending and updating MDI teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • This position will be part of the Quality team that supports Trane’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations at our Grand Rapids facility.

Experience And Skills Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with an associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on Quality areas.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality measurement tools, including dimensional and electrical measuring equipment.
  • Ability to learn CMM and GDT as plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
