Job description

Quality Systems Food Technologist

The Quality Systems Food Technologist is responsible for leading and managing the administration of documents and audits required to qualify ingredients and suppliers, providing administrative support and leadership to commercialization and operation initiatives. This includes review and approval of ingredient and supplier documents, database (Tracegains) management, ingredient evaluation, change control support, written communications, performance trend analysis and supplier audit.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with commercialization and cross‑functional teams (project management, R&D, purchasing, packaging engineering and quality) to support a consistent approach throughout the new product commercialization process.
  • Actively participate as a key member to fulfill ingredient and supplier review and qualification.
  • Design, execute, implement and support processes on ingredient and supplier qualification and Tracegains management to eliminate compliance gaps.
  • Manage food safety and FSMA compliance through the central repository database, Tracegains, maintaining a minimum of 99% completion and conducting weekly audits for accuracy.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date document library, obtaining the latest compliant documents from suppliers.
  • Partner with purchasing, regulatory and R&D on raw material change control, following department procedures and documenting each change control action.
  • Monitor supplier qualification profiles, including third‑party food safety audit results, certificates, HACCP, LOG, insurance and other compliance elements, reporting any discrepancies to company policy.
  • Research, update and maintain all current licenses, permits and other legal requirements for plants and warehouses.
  • Assist with other compliance initiatives as assigned.
  • Support operations and quality on ingredient shelf‑life evaluation.
  • Create raw material receiving worksheets accurately in SAP and Specs systems, reviewing each raw material and its approved supplier for accuracy.
  • Maintain an approved supplier and ingredient list accurately.
  • Conduct quarterly audits for each non‑branded business unit and report results to the department head.
  • Provide backup support for quality production specifications, creating production specifications as needed.
  • Support non‑branded business unit customer databases (e.g., SpecConnect, Respirotrak, Tracegains, FoodlogiQ, etc.) and conduct monthly audits to ensure database accuracy and maintenance to meet customer requirements.
  • Develop and implement change management procedures, incorporating a formalized change control process to document and approve ingredient and supplier process changes.
  • Ensure efficient tracking and documentation of ingredient and supplier related documents consistent with FSMA and claim compliance.
  • Apply the five‑step document control process (Request, Review, Assess, Decide, Implement) for QA documentation.
  • Document and report KPI metrics for supplier and ingredient performance, presenting findings in weekly QA staff meetings.
  • Assist the quality team in investigating raw material non‑conformance issues, coordinating with suppliers for troubleshooting and corrective action plans.
  • Perform supplier audits as needed, particularly for top 10 high‑risk, high‑spend suppliers.
  • Review, analyze, challenge and provide feedback on ingredient and supplier documents to ensure FSMA and food regulation compliance.
  • Lead and support international business and its product regulatory compliance assessment.
  • Execute duties and participate actively and proactively in projects assigned by direct supervisor and the quality department.
Education & Experience
  • Degree is a plus.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience.
