We are looking for: Quality Systems Engineer
We are seeking a Quality Systems Engineer to own and administer the Quality Management System (QMS) at our Solon, Ohio electronics manufacturing facility. This role is the backbone of our quality infrastructure — maintaining certification to IATF 16949 and ISO 9001, running the internal audit program, and ensuring our documented processes, records, and controls hold up under customer and third-party scrutiny. Unlike our Supplier Quality Engineer and Manufacturing Quality Engineer roles, which focus on incoming and in-process quality, this position is system-facing: it keeps the QMS itself accurate, current, effective, and audit-ready across every department. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable owning documentation and processes end-to-end, and confident facilitating audits and management reviews
Key responsibilities
QMS Ownership & Administration
- Own and maintain the facility's Quality Management System documentation hierarchy: quality manual, procedures, work instructions, and forms
- Administer the document control system, including revision control, approval workflows, and obsolete document removal
- Maintain the QMS software/platform (e.g., document control, CAPA, and audit management systems) and manage user access and training
- Ensure QMS structure and content remain aligned with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and applicable automotive OEM customer-specific requirements (CSRs)
Certification & Audit Management
- Serve as the facility's certification body liaison; coordinate and lead IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 surveillance and recertification audits
- Own and execute the internal audit program, including process audits, layered process audits (LPA), and system audits
- Apply VDA 6.3 process audit methodology for internal assessments and customer-facing audit readiness
- Track audit findings to closure and maintain objective evidence of corrective actions
- Facilitate management review meetings, consolidating QMS performance data, audit results, and customer feedback for leadership
- Own the facility's CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) system, ensuring cross-functional issues are tracked, root-caused, and closed on time
- Monitor and report facility-wide quality metrics and QMS health indicators (open CAPAs, audit closure rates, training compliance, etc.)
- Drive continuous improvement of QMS processes using Six Sigma, Lean, and structured problem-solving tools (8D, RCA, etc.)
Cross-Functional QMS Support
- Partner with the Supplier Quality Engineer and Manufacturing Quality Engineer to ensure supplier and manufacturing processes are properly represented within the QMS
- Support APQP program timing at the system level, ensuring PPAP, control plan, and FMEA templates and workflows are current and accessible
- Coordinate and track QMS-related training requirements across departments (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, internal auditor certification, etc.)
- Maintain record retention practices in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally electronics or automotive supply chain
- Demonstrated experience owning or administering a QMS certified to IATF 16949 and ISO 9001
- Strong working knowledge of VDA 6.3 process audit methodology; internal auditor certification preferred
- Proficient in core tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA (AIAG-VDA methodology), Control Plans, MSA, SPC
- Experience with 8D, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies
- Comfortable managing document control and QMS software platforms
- Excellent organizational, facilitation, and cross-functional communication skills
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 as they relate to QMS documentation and training requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified VDA 6.3 Process Auditor
- Lead Auditor certification (IATF 16949 and/or ISO 9001)
- Exposure to ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) quality system requirements
- Familiarity with AEC-Q100/AEC-Q200 component qualification standards
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
- Experience supporting automotive OEM customer audits and scorecards
Work environment
- Primarily office-based with regular presence on the manufacturing floor to support audits and process verification
- Occasional travel for certification body audits, customer visits, or supplier system assessments
