Job description

Unusual Machines is a U.S.-based drone and drone parts company focused on the small and First-Person View (FPV) segments of the drone market. Our brands - Rotor Riot and Fat Shark - are two of the most respected names in FPV and have helped shape the industry through e-commerce, product development, and a deep connection with the pilot community.

We’re expanding into enterprise and defense - bringing our obsessive attention to performance, design, and U.S.-based manufacturing into high-stakes environments like search and rescue and military innovation. With several of our products already approved by the Defense Innovation Unit, we’re solving procurement issues for customers who demand speed, agility, and compliance.

If you love working at the intersection of community, content, and cutting-edge technology, you’ll feel right at home here.

You in this role leads the day-to-day operations of Unusual Machines' quality inspection team, including Receiving Inspectors and In-Process Inspectors. This role is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality management system, ensuring product conformance at every stage of the supply chain and production process, and building a quality-first culture on the floor. The Quality Supervisor bridges the gap between frontline inspection staff and quality engineering and leadership — driving accountability, developing talent, and owning quality metrics. The ideal candidate is an experienced quality professional with strong leadership skills, deep technical knowledge, and a continuous improvement mindset.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Receiving and In-Process Inspectors, including scheduling, performance management, and on-the-job training.
  • Oversee all incoming, in-process and final inspection activities to ensure conformance to drawings, specifications, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Own the nonconformance management process: review and disposition NCRs, assign corrective actions, and track closure of CAPAs to verified effectiveness.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the quality management system (QMS), including document control, calibration records, inspection procedures, and audit readiness.
  • Develop, track, and report quality KPIs including defect rates, NCR aging, first pass yield, and supplier quality metrics; present findings to leadership.
  • Lead or support internal quality audits and prepare the team for external customer or certification audits (ISO 9001, AS9100, or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain on supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and supplier corrective action requests (SCARs).
  • Partner with engineering and production teams on new product introduction (NPI), first article inspections (FAI), and design-for-quality reviews.
  • Drive root cause analysis and problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) for recurring defects, field returns, and quality escapes.
  • Ensure all quality activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements where applicable.
  • Champion ESD control, FOD prevention, and all applicable safety and cleanliness standards on the production floor.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce waste, improve inspection efficiency, and enhance product reliability.
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain quality inspection talent in alignment with production growth plans.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance or quality control in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing inspection teams and holding people accountable to quality standards.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent) and quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, control plans).
  • Experience with NCR/CAPA systems and structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, and GD&T callouts.
  • Proficiency with quality data analysis and KPI reporting; comfortable presenting metrics to leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills — ability to coach and develop inspectors and influence cross-functional partners.
Preferred
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
  • Experience in electronics, aerospace, defense, or consumer technology manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 (Electronics Assemblies) and AS9100 quality systems.
  • Experience supporting AS9100/ISO9001-regulated programs.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MES systems and digital QMS platforms.
  • Background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), or 5S program leadership.
  • Familiarity with drone hardware, FPV systems, or RF electronics — or strong curiosity and willingness to learn.
Compensation

$65,000-$75,000

  • Equity is included for all exempt positions
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid Holidays
  • Daily Catered Lunches
