Overview
A well-established manufacturer of plastic and metal components used in the power grid industry has opened a new plant in Mocksville, NC and is seeking a Quality Supervisor to lead quality operations for its plastic injection molding processes. This role is critical to ensuring molded products consistently meet customer, engineering, and internal quality requirements while driving continuous improvement on the production floor.
What you'll do
- Supervise and coordinate the Quality Department supporting plastic injection molding operations
- Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor, overseeing inspection processes and production quality
- Review prior-shift quality issues, scrap, rework, and rejection data at the start of each shift
- Verify first-piece, in-process, and final inspections are completed accurately and on schedule
- Monitor critical dimensions, visual characteristics, and common molding defects such as flash, warpage, sink marks, short shots, burns, cracks, and contamination
- Work closely with Production and Engineering to identify molding-related quality issues, including mold condition, process settings, material traceability, and startup conditions
- Control nonconforming material, including identification, segregation, disposition, and preventing accidental release
- Direct and supervise Quality Technicians/Inspectors, including training, coaching, and performance management
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action efforts for quality problems
- Monitor and analyze scrap and rework trends, identifying high-frequency and high-cost defects
- Ensure proper quality checks and documentation during mold changes and machine startups
- Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, nonconformance reports, corrective actions, and calibration records
- Conduct end-of-shift reviews and provide clear handoff of open quality issues to the next shift
- Participate in weekly reviews of scrap trends, recurring defects, open corrective actions, and training needs
- Audit production areas for compliance with quality requirements and support continuous improvement activities
- Evaluate performance using measurable quality metrics such as scrap percentage, first-pass yield, and inspection compliance
- Hold authority to place product on hold, require additional inspection, and stop release of nonconforming product
Required qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field preferred
- Background in plastics manufacturing ideally preferred
