Job summary

Kennametal in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to manage daily lab operations, ensure ISO 9001 compliance, and lead a team of technicians. The role focuses on testing tungsten products, developing methods, and maintaining data integrity across finished, in-process, and raw materials.

The ideal candidate will have a BS in Chemistry or Engineering and strong supervisory, analytical, and communication skills, with experience in inorganic chemistry and metallurgy preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Engineering (preferred).
• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and quality systems.
• Experience with inorganic chemistry and metals/metallurgy is preferred.
• Proficient in testing techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related programs.
• Ability to analyze laboratory data and support process decisions.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Manage the daily operations of the laboratory
• Promote Kennametal's management-based safety culture within the lab
• Perform analysis on tungsten and tungsten carbide products using testing equipment and instrumentation
• Maintain the integrity of testing methods for finished, in-process, and raw materials
• Maintain testing results related to the facility's environmental concerns
• Assign tasks and duties to laboratory personnel
• Train and coach lab technicians and personnel
• Develop procedures as assigned by the Quality Manager
• Evaluate test data and make decisions regarding retesting and questionable results
• Incorporate new instrumentation and instrument upgrades
• Develop, test, and document testing methods for new or upgraded instruments
• Train lab personnel on new instrument operations
• Maintain instrumentation care, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance
• Revise departmental ISO documentation as assigned
• Complete internal ISO 9001 quality audits
• Potentially lead or facilitate process improvement, cost reduction, and lean manufacturing programs
• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Previous supervisory experience in a powder processing environment preferred
