Job summary

Givaudan in the USA is seeking a senior QC Scientist to inspect and analyze raw materials, in-process and finished product samples to ensure compliance with product safety regulations and standards.

You will perform GCMS-based testing, prepare samples and document results in SAP, and collaborate with Quality, Operations and Purchasing teams while ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance across sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, science, engineering or related discipline preferred or equivalent experience.
  • +5 years of experience in a related role.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience designing and implementing testing plans and protocols.
  • Solid technical experience GC Methodology.
  • Technical knowledge in developing GC methods.
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques and equipment (GC, balance, densitometer, refractometer, polarimeter, colorimeter).
  • Knowledge of sensory principles and data analysis of sensory results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical, physical testing and sensory evaluations of finished products, materials in process, or incoming ingredients, with emphasis on GCMS.
  • Prepare samples and enter test results into SAP or other systems, leading to acceptance or rejection.
  • Communicate results and status to Quality, Operations, Purchasing, and Customer Care via email, notes, or verbally.
  • Perform instrument calibrations and verifications and evaluate frequency adequacy.
  • Handle instruments and quality deviations in the laboratory.
  • Maintain a hygienic and safe work environment.
  • Provide backup and support to team members.
  • Identify opportunities for QC improvement and set proactive measures.
  • Support QC improvement projects (flows, methods, calibration).
  • Conduct training for team members.
  • Work on method implementation and collaboration with other Givaudan sites.
  • Create/maintain method library and stay updated with regulations and requirements.
  • Recommend improvements in analytical equipment, procedures and techniques.
  • Adhere to GMP, AIB, OSHA, HACCP, FDA and internal quality and safety guidelines.

Job Purpose

You will inspect and analyze raw materials, in-process and finished product samples to secure compliance with product safety regulations, specifications, and standards.

Salary Range Based on Experience

$70,000 - $80,000.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform chemical, physical testing and sensory evaluations of finished products, material in process, or incoming ingredients as identified by the current Givaudan specification for the item, with emphasis on GCMS.
  • Prepare samples and enter test results into SAP or other systems, resulting in an acceptance or rejection.
  • Assure results and status of batches to main contacts in Quality, Operations, Purchasing, and Customer Care. Types of communication include email, making notes in the system, and verbal.
  • Perform basic equipment calibrations and verifications according to established frequency, including the evaluation of whether the frequencies are appropriate and proposing improvements.
  • Perform instruments, equipment, and quality deviations in laboratory.
  • Ensure a hygienic and safe work environment.
  • Provide backup and support to team members.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in QC and set proactive measures for trouble prevention.
  • Support Quality Control improvement projects (flows, methods, calibration).
  • Conduct training for our team members.
  • Work on method implementation, plus network and collaboration with other Givaudan Sites.
  • Create/ maintain library of methods and keep up to date with regulations, Customer and Givaudan requirements.
  • Recommend improvements in analytical equipment, procedures, and techniques.
  • Work following all relevant requirements, including GMP, AIB, OSHA, HACCP, FDA, and internal quality and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, Science, Engineering, or related discipline preferred or equivalent experience as outlined below.
  • +5 years of experience.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience designing and implementing testing plans and protocols.
  • Solid technical experience GC Methodology.
  • Technical knowledge in developing GC methods.
  • Proficient in procedures and techniques for laboratory operations (e.g., GC, Weighing Balance, Densitometer, Refractometer, Polarimeter, Colorimeter).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry-specific flavor/chemical/food analysis practices.
  • Experience with all equipment and processes within quality laboratories.
  • Skills in MS Office, SAP Experience.
  • Knowledge of sensory principles and understanding of the data analysis of sensory results.
