Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking a Sr Quality Metallurgist to provide technical leadership across Melt Shop, Rolling Mill, and Logistics. You will ensure products meet customer requirements and support continuous improvement.

Reporting to the QA Manager, you will analyze data, lead investigations, and drive metallurgical enhancements while collaborating with operations and quality teams. Some travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• Minimum 15 years experience in steelmaking or heavy manufacturing preferred.
• Knowledge of steelmaking, refining, casting, and rolling processes.
• Excellent communication for customer interaction and reporting.
• Willingness to travel to support customers and technical needs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise product trials, metallurgical evaluations, and support customer inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with quality standards; maintain procedures, specs, job aids, and SAP SKU configurations.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure safe, efficient production.
• Analyze production data to monitor performance and recommend improvements.
• Lead metallurgical investigations, including root-cause and failure analyses.
• Lead product trials and report findings to operations and leadership.
• Provide technical support to operations during routine production and problem-solving.
• Assist with cost-justification for equipment or process changes.
• Stay current with industry technologies and share best practices.
• Support quality system requirements, including audits, calibrations, and corrective actions.

Overview

The Sr Quality Metallurgist provides technical leadership and metallurgical support for the Melt Shop, Rolling Mill, and Logistics operations. This role ensures that products meet customer requirements, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and strengthens the mill’s quality systems and metallurgical capabilities. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Sr Quality Metallurgist is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing product and process improvement opportunities.
