Job summary

Mid-Mountain is seeking a Quality Manager to lead continuous improvement of quality and compliance across manufacturing operations. This coaching role drives quality ownership, verifies system effectiveness, and ensures customer/regulatory compliance while building sustainable quality practices.

You will guide department personnel, manage audits, implement corrective actions, and report on QMS performance to senior leadership, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • At least three years’ quality management experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with problem-solving methodologies and root cause analysis tools.
  • Coaching: guide rather than do, influence without authority, build a quality culture.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, manage quality KPIs, and maintain document control systems.
  • Systems thinking to identify and solve systemic issues and reduce person-dependency.

Responsibilities

  • Quality System Leadership & Maintenance: Maintain and improve the ISO 9001:2015 QMS, manage documents, audits, and records.
  • Coaching & Process Verification: Coach teams on quality ownership, verify inspections, and ensure quality awareness.
  • Corrective Action & Problem Solving: Manage CARs using 8D, coordinate cross-functional teams, verify effectiveness.
  • Training & Customer Quality: Oversee training effectiveness, verify needs, support customer quality requirements.

Job description

Mid-Mountain seeks a Quality Manager to lead our very important efforts to continuously improve our quality and compliance. This is a coaching and coordination role, with some hands-on execution. You'll guide department personnel in quality ownership, verify system effectiveness, and ensure customer/regulatory compliance while building sustainable quality practices. This role requires good communication and coaching skills, and the ability to hold others accountable for quality and processes. This position will not be satisfied with the status quo, always looking to improve processes and people, and moving the organization forward.

Key Responsibilities
Quality System Leadership & Maintenance (35%)
  • Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
  • Manage document control, audit responses, and quality records retention.
  • Serve as primary quality authority for internal/external audits and certification activities.
  • Report on QMS performance to top management with improvement recommendations and results
Coaching & Process Verification (35%)
  • Coach department personnel on quality ownership and execution.
  • Conduct spot-checks verifications of high-profile product inspections.
  • Build distributed quality accountability with the philosophy that quality is everyone's responsibility.
  • Guide teams in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Verify quality processes are followed correctly through training and team exercises to enhance operator quality awareness.
Corrective Action & Problem Solving (20%)
  • Manage internal and customer-driven Corrective Action Requests (CARs) using 8D methodology.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to address quality issues.
  • Track and verify corrective action effectiveness through D6-D8 phases.
  • Manage Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMR) and disposition decisions.
Training & Customer Quality (10%)
  • Oversee training program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with department managers on training needs and verify effectiveness through observation.
  • Support customer quality requirements (scorecards, audits, compliance reporting).
  • Interface with purchasing on supplier quality issues and corrective action requirements.
Key Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Experience: At least three years’ quality management experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Analysis: Experience with problem-solving methodology and root cause analysis tools.
  • Coaching: Guide rather than do, influence without authority, build a quality culture working through and with others.
  • Technical: ability to read engineering drawings, manage quality Key Performance Indicators, maintain document control systems.
  • Systems thinking: Identify systemic issues, design resilient solutions, reduce person-dependency.
  • Communication: Deliver clear and transparent communication across all organizational levels, write professional audit responses, generate management reports, work with cross functional teams.
  • Computer: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel
  • Experience working within ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in operations or technical related field.
  • Experience in thermal insulation, composite materials, or similar manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma, ISO 9001 quality systems, including customer-specific quality requirements (AS9100, IATF 16949, or similar).
  • Certification as an ASQ Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Lead Auditor or willing to obtain this within 12 months.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Office and manufacturing floor environment.
  • Standard business hours with occasional flexibility required for audits or urgent quality issues.
  • Ability to stand/walk on manufacturing floor for extended periods during audits and verifications.
  • Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
