Position Summary

Based in Romulus, Michigan, the Quality Manager will perform essential job functions under the direction of the General Manager. The role ensures that products, materials, and services supplied to customers meet contractual requirements established by customers and internal procedures. The Quality Manager implements and maintains a documented quality program that supports consistent quality standards, identifies quality problems, initiates corrective actions, and may stop work that violates established standards.

The position is safety‑sensitive due to the nature of our industrial operations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Implement and maintain a documented quality program that meets customer requirements and corporate standards.
  • Direct and supervise the work of quality department employees.
  • Provide procedures, as required, to support quality department objectives.
  • Provide training to individuals whose work affects quality issues in accordance with the BMS.
  • Review customer proposals, requests for quotations, and purchase orders (including changes) to determine quality requirements and incorporate them into internal planning.
  • Establish and maintain relations with customer representatives for quality activities, including source inspection, audits, and process surveys.
  • Interface with other departments to provide assistance, resolve problems, and monitor work affecting quality.
  • Perform activities defined in the BMS responsibility matrix.
  • Monitor and audit responsibilities defined in the responsibility matrix.
  • Ensure conformance to quality program requirements through external and internal audits, corrective action programs, and qualification of associates through testing and training.
  • Maintain supplier qualification to ensure they meet quality standards and obtain process approvals.
  • Act as a member of the management team and perform any other duties assigned by the General Manager.
  • Practice and promote safety and good housekeeping.
  • Operate in compliance with the environmental management system (EMS).
  • Demonstrate the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co‑workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Handle access to compensation information and proprietary third‑party information with full confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
  • Education: Metallurgy or Material Science degree required.
  • Experience: Practical knowledge of commercial heat treatment of automotive alloys (steel, aluminum, titanium, nickel, brass, copper, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 years department management experience and 2 years direct supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a level suitable for interaction with management and all levels, both in‑house and at customer sites.
  • Capability to make written recommendations for improving Quality Assurance systems and procedures.
  • Familiarity with commercial (AMS, ASTM), automotive specifications, ISO, AS, QS, and TS quality systems.
  • Willingness to obtain a Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Thorough understanding of PPAP processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Detail oriented with strong deadline‑meeting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Experience or willingness to learn lean and sustainability principles.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Ability to work standing for extended periods in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, and other industrial conditions.
  • Cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, displays, and files.
  • Auditory capability for in‑person and phone communication.
