Job summary

Crane Pumps & Systems in Piqua, Ohio, seeks a Quality Manager to lead the Quality Management System (QMS) and quality operations, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

BUSINESS UNIT: Crane Pumps & Systems
DEPARTMENT: Quality

REPORTS TO: Director of Quality
BASIC FUNCTION:

The Quality Manager leads the Quality Management System (QMS) and quality operations to ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements. This role oversees supplier quality, inspections, manufacturing quality, corrective actions, audits, and warranty analysis, while partnering with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, enhance customer satisfaction, reduce the cost of poor quality, and support operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Manage daily activities of Quality Engineers, Inspectors, Quality Technicians, and other assigned quality personnel.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer requirements.
  • Lead internal audits and coordinate external audits, ensuring timely closure of findings and corrective actions.
  • Promote the Quality Policy and a culture of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth through continuous improvement and employee engagement throughout the organization.
  • Lead deployment of industry-recognized quality planning and process control methodologies including APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and other IATF 16949 Core Tools to improve product quality, process capability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor process performance and capability metrics and drive actions to reduce variation, improve process stability, and enhance product quality through the application of statistical techniques and Core Tool disciplines.
  • Drive resolution of customer complaints, supplier quality issues, nonconforming material reports, and field failures using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and implement preventive actions utilizing tools such as 8D, Fishbone Diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis, and PFMEA.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators.
  • Assist with management review preparation and reporting of quality system performance and business metrics.
  • Coordinate containment activities for significant product or process quality concerns.
  • Work closely with Operations to improve manufacturing processes, reduce variation, and improve product quality and process capability.
  • Ensure effective disposition and control of nonconforming materials and products.
  • Develop and maintain inspection, testing, and certification processes to ensure product compliance and reliability.
  • Provide quality leadership during customer visits, audits, supplier meetings, and quality reviews.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality personnel on the effective application of Core Tools, risk-based thinking, and quality planning methodologies.
  • Develop direct reports through training, coaching, performance management, and succession planning to ensure organizational capability and growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Minimum of five years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of three years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality methodologies and quality planning tools, including: APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) Control Plans MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Experience managing supplier and customer quality issues.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and test requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and quality-related software systems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, suppliers, customers, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive results through influence and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, or related technical field.
  • Experience with IATF 16949, AS9100 or other industry quality management standards.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or equivalent professional certification.
