The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality function and continuously improving the Quality Management System supporting Direct Wire operations in a rapidly growing company. The role owns the quality assurance system and product-conformity authority, develops the Quality team and its technical capabilities to support current and future operations, and maintains key certification and industry relationships. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, coaching, analytical, process-control, and cross-functional communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System and ISO 9001 compliance, including internal audits, management review inputs, corrective actions, document control, and quality records.
- Develop the Quality team through coaching, training, clear standards, and workforce planning to support growth and complex operations.
- Oversee Control Plans, inspection methods, SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, capability analysis, sampling plans, measurement systems, laboratory equipment, and the laboratory budget.
- Manage nonconforming product, containment, quality holds, disposition, release from containment, and escalation of significant product or customer risk; exercise authority to stop shipment when required working collaboratively with co-workers and suppliers.
- Lead customer quality activities, including complaints, 8D responses, customer audits, scorecards, corrective actions.
- Oversee supplier quality, including supplier qualification, audits, corrective actions, incoming quality controls, and supplier performance.
- Support new-product development, pFMEA, process qualification and validation, and change management through cross-functional partnership.
- Develop and analyze statistical data, product specifications, and quality metrics, including complaints, cost of poor quality, escapes, supplier quality, CAPA effectiveness, and audit performance; recommend and verify corrective actions
- Establish quality objectives and coordinate them with production procedures to improve product reliability and reduce cost while maintaining independent, objective conformity decisions under production or delivery pressure.
- Maintain quality procedures, policies, training, and MRP/ERP or QMS documentation related to quality and inspection.
- Represent Direct Wire with third-party certification providers and in industry groups and committees to remain current with regulatory, customer, and technical trends.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of progressive quality, engineering, or technical manufacturing experience, including demonstrated leadership of technical personnel, projects, or cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, employee-development, analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar, Quality Management Systems, corrective action, manufacturing problem solving, and audit practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant Quality Management education and progressive manufacturing-quality experience may be considered.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, product specifications, inspection methods, and customer or regulatory requirements.
- Ability to make objective quality decisions under production or delivery pressure and communicate effectively with customers and all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing, ERP, or QMS systems; experience with statistical software such as Minitab preferred.
- Quality management experience in a technical B2B manufacturing environment, ISO 9001 audit experience, Lean/Six Sigma training, or ASQ CQE/CMQ-OE certification preferred.
