Mount Joy Wire is seeking an experienced Director of Quality, Technical & Environmental Services to lead several critical technical functions within our specialty wire manufacturing operation.
This position will have overall leadership responsibility for our Quality Department, laboratory operations, environmental compliance, industrial wastewater treatment, and chemical process management throughout the facility.
We are looking for someone who combines strong manufacturing quality experience with practical technical knowledge. The ideal candidate has successfully worked within an ISO 9001 quality system, participated in or led ISO audits, and has significant hands‑on experience with industrial wastewater treatment and environmental compliance.
This is not a desk‑only quality position. The successful candidate will work closely with plant leadership, production employees, customers, laboratory personnel, and regulatory agencies to solve problems and continuously improve our operation.
Provide overall leadership and direction for the Mount Joy Wire Quality Department.
Manage, mentor, and develop the Quality Manager and quality personnel.
Maintain and continuously improve the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Lead preparation for and execution of ISO certification and surveillance audits.
Provide experienced leadership and mentorship to develop the internal quality team and strengthen its ability to independently manage the quality system.
Oversee customer complaints, nonconformances, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and material disposition.
Interface directly with customers regarding technical and quality matters.
Partner with Operations and Engineering to reduce defects, scrap, rework, and recurring quality issues.
Ensure customer specifications and internal quality requirements are understood and consistently achieved.
Oversee operation and compliance of the facility's industrial wastewater treatment system.
Maintain compliance with applicable environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
Manage required environmental monitoring, documentation, reporting, recordkeeping, and regulatory interaction.
Oversee the safe management, use, storage, testing, and disposal of chemicals throughout the manufacturing operation.
Provide technical oversight for chemical processes including acid cleaning and pickling, phosphating, lime treatment, oil tempering process chemistry, and other wire treatment processes.
Work directly with Operations and Maintenance to troubleshoot chemical-process and wastewater-treatment issues.
Support environmental inspections, audits, permitting activities, and continuous compliance efforts.
Manage the facility's laboratory personnel and testing programs.
Ensure laboratory testing methods, equipment, records, and procedures support customer and manufacturing requirements.
Oversee mechanical, metallurgical, and chemical testing associated with wire production and process control.
Provide technical support to production when material, process, coating, chemistry, or quality problems arise.
Use laboratory and process data to identify trends and drive improvements throughout the mill.
Significant quality leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, preferably including experience leading or playing a major role in certification and surveillance audits.
Hands‑on experience with industrial wastewater treatment systems.
Experience with environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of industrial chemical processes and chemical management.
Experience managing and developing technical, quality, or laboratory personnel.
Strong root cause analysis, corrective action, problem-solving, and continuous improvement skills.
Ability to communicate confidently with customers, auditors, regulators, plant personnel, and senior management.
Experience within steel, wire, metal processing, plating, heat treatment, chemical processing, finishing, or another heavy manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Engineering, Quality, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Equivalent relevant industrial experience will also be considered.
This role requires someone who is equally comfortable in the plant and in the conference room.
We want a leader who can walk into the wastewater treatment area and understand what is happening, work with production to troubleshoot a process issue, mentor a developing quality team, confidently handle a customer quality discussion, and lead the organization through an ISO audit.
The right individual will be practical, technically curious, organized, hands‑on, and comfortable taking ownership of several critical functions within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
