Job summary

CST Industries, Inc. seeks a Quality Manager to lead the local Quality team in DeKalb, IL. You will own and improve the Quality Management System, oversee CAPA processes, and drive KPI reporting to ensure audit readiness and conformity across operations.

Responsibilities include coordinating supplier audits, managing calibration programs, and communicating quality requirements to internal and external stakeholders. Strong Lean/Six Sigma experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years’ Lean environment experience; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • Coaching/leadership experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Strong data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and improve Quality Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Quality event management including CAPA and risk assessment with timely closure.
  • Monitor Quality KPIs and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Coordinate supplier audits and ensure CST guidelines are followed.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to communicate quality challenges.
  • Manage calibration program for facility equipment and ensure adequate assets.
  • Oversee external testing of materials and products as required.
  • Prepare and manage the department budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for ensuring the continued success and development of the local Quality Team and maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with CST, ISO, and (as applicable) API guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and develop the local Quality team, while aligning with enterprise Quality functions to drive a positive, consistent, high-performing Quality culture across operations and support functions.
  • Own and continuously improve the QMS to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable API standards, while enhancing effectiveness, scalability, and audit readiness.
  • Promote and enforce robust processes for Quality event management, including nonconformance handling, risk assessment, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative actions (CAPA), ensuringtimely closure, verified effectiveness, and sustained Quality at the Source.
  • Monitor and report Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), translating data into actionable insights and driving accountability for gap closure.
  • Communicate requirements and customer concerns to the team in an effective, professional manner.
  • Manage supplier audits and their processes in accordance with CST guidelines.
  • Interface with others both internal and external to the company and communicate quality challenges in a professional and effective manner.
  • Manage the facility’s equipment calibration program and verify that available equipment is sufficient to ensure conforming output.
  • Manage the external testing of materials and products as required.
  • Prepare and manage department budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a Lean environment, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • Effective coaching and mentoring skills, Management or Demonstrated Leadership Experience preferred.
  • Must have data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within and be an active member of cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with implementation and sustainment of Quality Systems.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and interpret CST and customer prints and documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports in a professional manner.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole, fractional and decimal numbers.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Handle problems involving variables in a standardized situation.
  • Ability to make decisions and know when/where to make concessions.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Advanced level of knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Walk, must be able to move about inside the manufacturing and office and occasionally on a construction site or outside of the manufacturing facility.
  • Use hands/fingers to feel, must be able to operate computers, machinery, dimensional equipment.
  • Sit and stand, must be able to work at a stationary desk that may require sitting or standing.
  • Standing on concrete floor and uneven terrain will be required frequently.
  • Climb and balance, must climb stairs and ladders.
  • Stoop, kneel and crouch or crawl.
  • Talk/hear, must be able to communicate with operators and management frequently and exchange accurate information.
  • Lift and carry weights of 50lbs.
