Job summary

Sherwin-Williams in Birmingham, AL seeks a Quality Control Technician to maintain QC processes, test products, and record results to ensure compliance with specifications. You will interpret data from production batches and advise adjustments to batches as needed.

The role requires working a rotating night shift (4 days on, 4 days off, 6:30 pm–6:30 am) with training on day shift; you will support ISO and Safety Systems and may be eligible for a performance-based bonus.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality control laboratory settings preferred.
• Associate degree in Chemistry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure tests are completed and results meet specifications before moving to the next production step.
• Enter batch data into the electronic batch records system.
• Generate paperwork as required per customer specifications.
• Gather and send customer samples as required.
• Use computer systems to ensure effective product testing.
• Determine disposition of non-conforming finished goods.
• Place non-conforming material on hold as needed.
• Support ISO Management Systems and Safety Systems.
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies.
• Identify and communicate product issues to other departments.
• Create and update SOPs for Quality Department to meet ISO requirements.
• Assist in training of other lab technicians.

Job description

This position is responsible for maintaining quality control processes, testing products, and recording and analyzing results gathered to ensure Sherwin products meet quality specifications. This position is responsible for testing production batches according to specific written testing methods and identifying issues with both in-spec and out-of-spec data. The technician will interpret results and historical data to ensure the product meets or exceeds the customer requirements for quality, as well as provide instructions to production personnel regarding adjustments to batches as needed.

Additional Information:

Night Shift: Rotating Schedule: 4 days on, 4 days off, 6:30pm to 6:30am

Training: New hires will complete initial training on day shift, 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Hours and schedules may be adjusted as needed to support operational requirements.

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.

• Create, maintain, and update standard operating procedures for Quality Department to meet ISO requirements
• Assist in training of other lab technicians as needed

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have at least one (1) year of experience working in a quality control laboratory
• Have at least one (1) year of experience working in a manufacturing or distribution facility
• Have an associate's degree or higher in Chemistry
