Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Horspool & Romine MFG is a long-standing, family-owned precision machine shop in Oakland, CA. We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join our team and help ensure that the parts we manufacture consistently meet customer requirements and our high standards for quality.

The Quality Inspector will work closely with our machinists and management team to inspect machined parts, verify dimensions and tolerances, document inspection results, and identify any issues before parts are shipped to our customers. The ideal candidate takes pride in doing things correctly, has strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming materials, in-process work, and finished machined parts to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
• Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and other inspection tools.
• Verify critical dimensions, tolerances, threads, surface conditions, and other part characteristics.
• Document inspection results accurately and maintain required quality records.
• Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming material or workmanship.
• Work with machinists and management to investigate quality issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection equipment and ensure measuring tools are properly identified and within their required calibration period.
• Assist with maintaining and improving the company's quality management system.
• Participate in internal audits, quality reviews, and other quality-related activities.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient inspection area.
• Provide feedback to production personnel when quality issues are identified.
• Follow established quality procedures and help identify opportunities to improve inspection and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in quality control .
• 2+ years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies and tools.
• Proficient in using measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
• Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
