Job Description Summary
The Asheville Quality Assurance Specialist role involves inspecting complex rotating jet engine components made with unique aerospace alloys. The role requires using precision CNC and conventional inspection equipment in a clean, temperature-controlled environment. The specialist must follow work instructions, plans, drawings, and blueprints to inspect hardware with tight tolerances and fine finishes, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and aerospace standards. The team will also identify and implement process improvements focusing on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and human development.

Working at our Asheville Facilities
Our campus produces highly complex rotating parts for aircraft engines and high-tech ceramic matrix composites. The product range includes shafts, seals, retainers, and discs, enhancing the performance of commercial, military, marine, and industrial engines.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and follow process sheets, tooling instructions, quality specifications, blueprints, GD&T, and related documents.
  • Use precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, surface finish gauges) to measure and record physical dimensions accurately.
  • Follow setup instructions for machines like CMM, Genspect, Tracer, etc.
  • Perform mathematical calculations as needed.
  • Conduct various inspections (first piece, last piece, in-process, first article).
  • Verify dimensions that cannot be measured at the machine and ensure accuracy of machinist measurements.
  • Create and use precision measuring aids (gage blocks, rotary tables, etc.).
  • Complete operator certifications, including Characteristics Verification Process (CVP) and GE certifications.
  • Administer CVP practical tests annually.
  • Understand part process flow and communicate with production schedulers to plan commitments.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and submit Maximo requests for issues.
  • Participate actively in team problem-solving and process improvements.
  • Use manual dexterity for setup and inspection tasks.
  • Complete all required training timely (compliance, HR, job-specific, EHS, Lean).
  • Escalate safety concerns and participate in safety solutions.
  • Use computer systems like Outlook and Shop Floor applications, and understand lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Create NCRs when non-conformances are found, working with support teams.
  • Mentor new team members, participate in meetings, communicate professionally, and maintain excellent attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience working from detailed instructions and planning.
  • One year reading blueprints and performing basic math (decimals, fractions).
  • One year using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • Either a 1-year machining certificate, 2 years machining experience, or 2 years in quality assurance in a machining environment.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (Outlook, shop floor systems).
