Job description

Smurfit Westrock (NYSE:SW) is the go-to leader and partner of choice in sustainable packaging. We are dedicated to creating efficient and scalable paper and packaging solutions to help solve complex packaging challenges. Guided by our values of safety, loyalty, integrity and respect, we are committed to delivering meaningful value for shareholders, customers, employees and the communities where we operate.

The Opportunity:

As a QA Inspector, this role is responsible for ensuring finished products meet defined quality standards before release to finished goods. This position plays a critical role in protecting the customer by executing sampling plans, performing inspections, and validating form, fit, and function requirements. The QA Inspector evaluates internal retains, identifies defects using established classification criteria, and ensures that nonconforming material is properly contained and addressed. A typical day may involve inspecting finished product, analyzing inspection data, verifying documentation, participating in shift-to-shift communication, and collaborating with operators, leads, and shift managers to ensure zero defects are released to the customer.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Execute final inspections using ANSI sampling plans to identify critical, major, and minor defects in accordance with customer requirements and internal specifications.
  • Evaluate internal retains and inspection data prior to releasing product into finished goods.
  • Perform visual inspections and form, fit, and function testing on all applicable products.
  • Ensure adherence to product specifications, quality standards, and defined processes through collaboration with operations.
  • Verify that line clearances are completed, documented, and compliant with quality requirements.
  • Organize and support sorting, rework, or reprocessing activities based on inspection results and defect severity.
  • Develop and implement containment and mitigation actions to prevent nonconforming material from reaching the customer, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Maintain accountability for all product released to finished goods.
  • Analyze and communicate quality data, inspection results, and issues through reports, documentation, and shift-to-shift handoffs.
  • Support other shifts as needed to ensure consistent quality coverage.
  • Strive for zero customer complaints resulting from administrative, inspection, or critical quality errors.
What you need to succeed:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve quality issues through established escalation and problem-solving protocols.
  • Ability to multitask while consistently applying quality standards across multiple customers and products.
  • Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to inspection and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control concepts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and comprehension.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and data entry skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and the ability to navigate defined quality processes and procedures.
What we offer:
  • Corporate culture based on integrity, respect, accountability and excellence.
  • Comprehensive training with numerous learning and development opportunities.
  • An attractive salary reflecting skills, competencies and potential.
  • A career with a global packaging company where Sustainability, Safety and Inclusion are business drivers and foundational elements of the daily work.
Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.

Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by state or federal law.
